AT&T Galaxy Note Jelly Bean Release Date Now Total Mystery

Published

on

Any clue that AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note owners had in regards to the potential roll out its Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update have vanished as a carrier that typically rolls out its Samsung software updates in close proximity has taken down its specific timing for its Galaxy Note Jelly Bean update.

Read: Samsung Galaxy Note Jelly Bean Update Rolls Out to More Users.

Back in late February, we told you, that based on timing for the Rogers Samsung Galaxy Note Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, that the AT&T Galaxy Note Jelly Bean update could roll out at some point in March. Rogers, which is the Canadian version of AT&T, typically rolls out its updates close to AT&T updates, at least when it comes to Samsung phones.

The AT&T Galaxy Note may be in for a long wait for Jelly Bean.

As we’ve noted, with the Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean update, Rogers rolled out its update on December 2nd and AT&T rolled its update out on December 3rd. With the Galaxy Note Ice Cream Sandwich update, Rogers rolled its version of the update out on July 13th while AT&T’s Galaxy Note ICS update landed on July 10th.

By no means does this confirm that the Galaxy Note Andoid 4.1 updates will roll out in close proximity of each other but based on the history of Rogers and AT&T, it makes it a distinct possibility. Unfortunately for both Rogers and AT&T Galaxy Note owners, Rogers has updated its upgrade page in recent days and the information isn’t pretty.

Rogers says it's still waiting for Samsung to submit the Android 4.1 update.

Rogers says it’s still waiting for Samsung to submit the Android 4.1 update.

Instead of listing a specific roll out time frame as it does with many other devices, Rogers now lists the Galaxy Note upgrade as “Pending software submission from device manufacturer.” What this means is that Samsung has not submitted the update to them yet, at least according to this information, and it’s something that could mean a lengthy wait for not only owners on Rogers but on AT&T as well.

What this means is that the only insight that Rogers and AT&T Galaxy Note owners had on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean roll out timing is now gone and it’s now back to square one in terms of the wait.

The good news is that the Galaxy Note Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update hit more users yesterday as Galaxy Note owners in Korea received their upgrade to Android 4.1 and that’s a sign of progress which is always a good sign when it comes to Android updates.

This of course is because of AT&T’s stubbornness & insistence on ripping off customers at every turn. Instead of going with the already proven & working solution of Google Wallet, they have decided to try & extract a few more percentage points of profit by forcing subscribers that want to use digital NFC payments to use their Isis Mobile Wallet. That requires extensive testing of hardware & software & involves a third party, Isis, that now also has to test & approve the update.

On a positive note though, AT&T will have to stop blocking subscribers from using the Google Wallet system as block a competing service is illegal & in violation of the net neutrality laws. Then again, lobbying seems to work well for the large carriers in the US, whom are allowed to get away with creating monopolies & charging three times the world average for service. What makes this sickening is that the useless FCC is supposed to be there to prevent these things from happening by leasing our airwaves, aka: mobile broadband bandwidth, which is a public resource owned by citizens in the USA, in our best interest. Unfortunately again, it doesn’t work that way & our crappy professional politicians allow companies like AT&T to dictate all the terms including what programs we can use, how we can use our data allotments & even whether or not we are allowed to unlock devices we have purchased, even those purchased at full retail prices.

This will be the last time I buy a Samsung phone. I can’t wait for Google to come up with a Nexus that has decent specs. We will be better served with them.

AT&T and Samsung should pay for this that makes all subscribers that bought the first generation Galaxy Note suckers.

If there is a dislike button for Samsung and AT&T, I can’t press it enough.

Samsung is really good at updating their phones, they use to be much worse. I think at&t is at fault, I think they are passing the buck. I say that because my international GNote received the jelly bean update in March. Samsung updated a phone that is going on two years old. I blame the carriers for slow updates. My T-Mobile galaxy s2 was also updated to jelly bean this month. So as you can see, it’s really not samsung that is the issue.

Well, that is a bit disappointing, but my experience with AT&T has generally been very positive. However, my co-worker has a NOTE 2 with the Jelly Bean system. It looks very slick. Consequently, I’ll probably just root my Note and apply a stable 4.2 version that is out there

It could be that additional software for the stylus was not submitted yet

I was going to buy the Note 2 but figured that if the Note was cheaper I would get it and then get jelly bean when it came out. I should have bought the Note 2.

It’s not android’s fault. What you should be saying is I’ll never buy a premium phone from At&t as any smart person would know by now.

And for everyone else damn stop complaining about something that you’re getting for free that they didn’t have to do in the first place. What the hell would you do if it was still like the days of phones have a non-updatable OS.

*Before someone goes and gets mad at me… I have the Note and have been waiting for this update to and yes it is kinda annoying, but seeing people hate the product is even more annoying.

good point. I would love to have the new update, but for now I just going to be patient and wait. I’ve tried to root my note but for some reason it didn’t take. Maybe I got to go back to the drawing board…

I’ve contacted both AT&T and Samsung and both sources could not give me any information on the 4.1 update. AT&T claims that the only update they have listed is the ICS update, which we all know was delivered almost 1 year ago. Samsung says they cannot provide any information at this time. This is a huge let down because the Galaxy S2 on Sprint’s network just received the update to 4.1 starting today. The S2 is an older phone than the Note. WHAT IS GOING ON?!? I, for one, cannot wait for the S4 to come out, at which point I will be switching carriers and never looking back!

Adam Smith, the author of this article is in the business of inciting anger with Samsung owners and google by publishing gibberish and false promise dates. I challenge him to publish the Rogers or at&t website he gets these made up promise dates. He enjoys the attention and the games and the reactions from you.
He is currently being investigated for falsifying and wrongfully publishing information, and possibly working for a Samsung competitor.

I reset my original Note back to stock factory, got a premium battery & calibrated it, got rid of a lot of junk apps and have an amazingly good phone that now lasts at least a full day on the battery. I wouldn’t be surprised that after updating to some dodgy AT&T JB hack job that I’ll have a phone with issues again. Short story is… I’m enjoying the phone that I have! I don’t use the new features on my Note 10.1 tablet that much anyway.

Samsung is messed up and is only now fixed (begining of march) the kies software to backup the calendar events, blaiming the customer’s phone as being corrupted for the past year. The phone is otherwise a good phone. The problem lies with their willingness to resolve issues.

I never have, nor do I now, have issues with kies backing up my calendar events or info. I use kies a lot, several times a month, along with kies air. Kies has come along way since the days of the Samsung vibrant…. when I updated to froyo it bricked my vibrant. But I’m confident now that those issues are behind them and I successfully updated my GNote n7000 and T-Mobile sgs2 with kies.
