AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 Release Passes Roadblock

Published

on

The AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 stopped by the FCC this week for approval before what is likely a May release window, and Galaxy S4 pre-orders which start on April 16th.

This model of the Samsung Galaxy S4 carries the Samsung SGH-I337 model number we first reported on months ahead of the Samsung Galaxy S4 announcement, making it the only Galaxy S4 model with a little geek, LEET humor in the model number.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 announcement took place in early March, and Samsung likely kept the Galaxy S4 from the hands of the FCC to keep the device details and design a secret. Before the Samsung Galaxy S4 release in the U.S. the device must pass through the FCC, once for each carrier version of the device.

The Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 passed through the FCC last week on the way to its release date, though Verizon is one of the last U.S. carriers to announce an official Galaxy S4 release or pre-order process.

The FCC shares a full report on the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4, including LTE, WiFi n, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC, but none of this is new. The full FCC report includes a dozen or so graphs on radiation and emission, for users who really enjoy charts. Engadget discovered the filing.

With FCC approval in hand, the AT&T Galaxy S4 release date is no longer held up by government approval. This could also help speed the free Samsung Galaxy S4 devices into the hands of those who are winning Samsung’s $33,000 worth of Samsung Galaxy S4 devices as part of the Cut to the Front of the Line contest.

While the FCC filing shows Samsung is making progress towards the AT&T Galaxy S4 release date, the document doesn’t clue us in on when the actual release will take place. AT&T already announced the Samsung Galaxy S4 pre-orders will start on April 16th and confirmed a higher than average Galaxy S4 price.

Even without an official release date, it’s very possible that the AT&T Galaxy S4 release date is planned for May 1st, roughly two weeks after the pre-orders start. AT&T typically takes pre-orders for two weeks, which points to a May 1st release possibility.

AT&T announced HTC One pre-orders will start on April 4th, and the AT&T HTC One release date is set for April 19th. This means the HTC One and the Galaxy S4 should arrive around the same time, offering consumers a great set of choices in just a week or two.

We are still waiting for the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 to make its way through the FCC, as well as the T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular versions.

The AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 price is set at $250, $50 more than the iPhone 5 and the HTC One, which could be a sticking point as the HTC One release is set for just weeks earlier.

Are you saying that the UK gets the phone a 5 days before the US? and Canada a week before that? That’s so wrong. I may have to prolong my wait in protest and just wait for WishPlz to inform me of discounts. (Via https://bit.ly/XRexQQ encase you’re interested)
