Yesterday, Verizon approved an HTC ThunderBolt update for roll out just a few weeks after the device received Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Today, that update is rolling out to ThunderBolt owners which means that since their Android 4.0 delay back in August, the HTC ThunderBolt has received two updates while the Droid Incredible 2 has received zero.

On April Fool’s Day, it became known that Verizon had approved a small HTC ThunderBolt update for arrival. The update, which is very real despite the timing, is the second update that Verizon has issued to the HTC ThunderBolt since HTC delayed its Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update back in August. The first update of course was Android 4.0 itself which rolled out earlier this year.

This HTC ThunderBolt update is now rolling out.

The second, the one that began rolling out this morning to owners, is a smaller enhancement update that is a mere 19MB in size. The list of improvements contained within the update include functionality for the microphone when HAC is enabled, improvements to HTC Watch, visible Amber Alerts, improved text messaging, and improvements to Exchange and Yahoo! mail.

It’s not as big as Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich but it’s an update that brings some welcomed features and perhaps could help with frame rate issues that HTC ThunderBolt owners have been dealing with since installing Android 4.0.

What this also means is that the HTC ThunderBolt has been updated twice before the Droid Incredible 2 which has not only yet to receive a small enhancement update but has not yet gotten Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, an update that has been delayed since August of last year.

Since August, HTC and Verizon have remained virtually mum on the subject. HTC has said that the update’s delay is due to connectivity issues and says that it will update owners closer to its roll out date.

Two HTC ThunderBolt updates have now beaten the Droid Incredible 2 ICS update.

Of course, we’ve heard otherwise from unofficial sources that seem to point to an indefinite delay for the Droid Incredible 2 ICS update. In other words, it may never roll out.

HTC and Verizon have yet to outright cancel the Droid Incredible 2 Ice Cream Sandwich update but at this point, given the length in time, it doesn’t look good for owners. And now, making matters worse, is the fact that the HTC ThunderBolt has received two updates in a short amount of time. At the very least, it’s confirmed that the Droid Incredible 2 ICS update has now been beaten by two HTC ThunderBolt updates.

HTC ThunderBolt owners will be able to find the update through the device’s settings.

I almost bought a Thunderbolt when I bought my Dinc2. Definitely would have thought twice about any HTC product if I knew then what I know now.
