Back in January, Sony announced two new smartphones, the Sony Xperia Z and the Sony Xperia ZL. Both devices have since launched yet neither of them have become available on carriers in the United States. However, today, news has surfaced indicating that both the Xperia Z and the Xperia ZL will be heading to U.S. carriers in the future.

Rumors suggest that the Sony Xperia Z will be touching down on T-Mobile in the future though details about the release are still firmly in the shadows. That hasn’t stopped another U.S. carrier from confirming its own Xperia smartphone for arrival with Cincinnati Bell announcing that it will soon carry the Sony Xperia ZL.

The carrier announced a May 1st release date for the Sony Xperia ZL, the more compact counterpart of the Xperia Z, and it says that it will be offering it for $249.99 on-contract after consumers send in a rebate. Cincinnati Bell’s release date for the Xperia ZL comes on the same day that T-Mobile will be offering up the Samsung Galaxy S4. It’s unclear if other carriers will release the Galaxy S4 on the same date, but it’s possible.

The Sony Xperia ZL might beat the Xperia Z to a U.S. release.

We do know that the carrier will be the first U.S. carrier to carry the Xperia ZL and it may be the first carrier to offer either of the new Xperia Z smartphones. T-Mobile still hasn’t announced the Xperia Z and it may not do so for some time.

Those not looking to grab it from a carrier can snag it straight from Sony though the price will be much more expensive. Sony currently charges upwards of $700 for the HSPA+ and LTE versions of the Xperia ZL.

The Xperia ZL is similar to the Xperia Z in that it features a 5-inch 1080p display, 13MP camera, and quad-core processor. However, its design is more compact and it eschews the Xperia Z’s all-glass design.
