While the original Samsung Galaxy S2 remains on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, at least for now, AT&T’s Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is now available through Samsung Kies, becoming the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to hit a Galaxy S2 in the United States.

Just a short time ago, Sprint, T-Mobile and Virgin Mobile USA became the first carriers in the U.S. to roll out the hotly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean update, taking owners up from the aging Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Today, another carrier has joined that group as the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket Jelly Bean update has become available to download.

Samsung has made the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket Android 4.1 update available through Samsung Kies which means that owners can simply install Kies to a PC and get to downloading and installing the new software.

The manufacturer has posted instructions for the manual installation method on its website and those who own a Galaxy S2 Skyrocket on AT&T can follow them to get Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean up and running on their device. After several minutes, the update should be relatively large, Android 4.0 will be replaced by all of the new features of Android 4.1.

Android 4.1 includes features like Google Now, a new smoother interface, improved Calendar and Browser and better widgets, but because Samsung also brings TouchWiz Nature UX to the table, it also means that the Galaxy S2 Skyrocket will now have access to software features as Pop Up Video which is a fantastic feature for multitasking and is featured on the Galaxy S3.

Of course, while this is a great day for Galaxy S2 Skyrocket owners, owners of the original Galaxy S2 are certainly going to be disappointed as the carrier nor the manufacturer have produced an update for that device. We imagine now that the Galaxy S2 Skyrocket has been updated with the latest software that we’ll see something in the next few weeks for the original Galaxy S2, but at this point, it’s impossible to say.

U.S. Cellular and Verizon also have yet to update their Galaxy S2 variants with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Why couldn’t they make it over the air? Kies is horrible! If it is too big, make it only available through wifi.

Having Kies won’t hurt your computer, lol. Just use it for software checking.

Oh, it doesn’t scare me, it just doesn’t work. Mini Kies didn’t work on the Vibrant (Tmobile’s Samsung Galaxy S) and Kies doesn’t work for this phone. It recognizes the phone, downloads stuff and then loses the connection to the phone. I used 3 different cables and 2 different USB ports. If you google it, TONS of people have problems with Kies.
