Much of the attention lavished upon Google I/O has been due to the presumed arrival of a new Nexus 7 2 and Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, the rumored upcoming version of Android. However, according to a new rumor, it could be that we see a new Nexus 4 debut as well in the form of a Nexus 4 LTE, a device with 4G LTE capabilities.

In the build up to Google I/O 2013, set to kick off in May, we’ve heard a number of different rumors in regards to products that could be announced there. While there have been rumors of a Nexus 5, most of the attention has been given to Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie and a new Nexus 7, rumored to be replacing Asus’ aging model. Today though, another possible device has surfaced, and one that could intrigue many consumers who are looking for a new smartphone.

The Nexus 4 LTE is rumored for Google I/O.

SidhTech is hearing that Google could announce a new Nexus 4 at Google I/O 2013 in the form of an LTE-enabled Nexus 4 and specifically, a larger 32GB Nexus 4 model that could come with CDMA compatibility. If true, that could mean that Sprint or Verizon or both could wind up carrying the device at some point.

There has been whispering of such a device in the past, and given that Sprint launched a Nexus S 4G after the arrival of the Nexus S and also launched the Galaxy Nexus (not to mention the Nexus 7 3G came later) a few months after it first arrived, it’s certainly possible that we could see a new Nexus 4 with LTE arrive in the weeks ahead. After all, Google did just add several new Nexus 4 accessories to the Google Play Store a few weeks ago, a sign that this smartphone is far from being dead in the water.

Of course, we should also note that none of the bigger outlets that typically have this type of information have passed along anything to corroborate this claim, we haven’t seen any physical evidence and we haven’t heard anything ourselves. We also saw Andy Rubin talk about the pitfalls of an LTE Nexus though he did not rule out a new device in the future. At this point though, it should all be taken with a grain of salt.

The current Nexus 4 is without LTE connectivity, instead opting to feature HSPA+ speeds instead. It also only comes in 8GB and 16GB form, making users heavily rely on cloud storage.

So while there is likely a demand for a Nexus 4 with more space and LTE, it’s unclear if it will ever be making it to shelves. And at this point, we consider it a long shot.

I don’t think the Nexus 4 is going to get LTE because it would make the battery life atrocious.

The Nexus 4 has LTE, and it’s simple to unlock…XDA developers is the source and how tp…I get tired of reviewers constantly failing to mention that the Nex4 has always had LTE…

It’s not really true LTE though, I could not just enable it and use AT&T’s LTE service. It works in Canada and possibly on a future T-Mobile LTE band.

LTE is LTE… and the nexus has true LTE. It might not support AT&T’s USA LTE band, but that doesn’t make it any less supporting of LTE.
