A notorious HTC leakster and developer has put the prospects of an HTC One X+ Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie update in jeopardy today with remarks that seem to point to an update that may never arrive for owners of 2012’s other One X branded smartphone.

While much of the rumor and speculation regarding HTC updates has been around the upcoming Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and Sense 5 update, we have heard little tidbits about another likely update, the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie update, which supposedly will be making its debut on stage at Google I/O next month. Thus far, no companies have confirmed the software for their devices, not surprising given its unofficial status, but that hasn’t stopped potential information from surfacing.

The HTC One X+ Android 5.0 update appears to be in limbo.

The HTC One X+ Android 5.0 update appears to be in limbo.

Earlier this month, noted HTC insider @LlabTooFeR claimed that the HTC One X would be staying on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean after receiving it and Sense 5 at some point down the road. While that is not definitive, he has been accurate with his information in the past and it could mean that HTC will skip Android 5.0 with the One X.

Now, he has shed some more light on the Android 5.0 update situation with remarks regarding the HTC One X+, the follow up to the HTC One X that launched in late 2012.

In response to an inquiry about the possibility of an HTC One X+ Android 5.0 update, @LlabTooFeR seems to hint at the HTC One X+ staying on Android 4.2 like the HTC One X. His answer is a bit ambiguous as the person asked two separate questions, though we feel comfortable that his response is in regards to the first question asking about Android 5.0. It also should be noted that the person asking seems to think that way as well and @LlabTooFeR didn’t clarify with another response.

Of course, just because he doesn’t seem to think that the HTC One X+ will get Android 5.0 doesn’t mean that it won’t. After all, the HTC One X+ is a much newer device and also sports a quad-core processor in the U.S., something that the HTC One X doesn’t have. So there is certainly still a chance that it could receive the update.

Don't believe the latest rumor that Android 5.0 is delayed.

Android 5.0 is rumored for May.

The device is still on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and has yet to be upgraded to Android 4.2. In fact, we still aren’t sure when HTC will be rolling out Android 4.2 though we have heard that it will likely be bringing HTC Sense 5 along with it. HTC confirmed Sense 5 for the global version of the HTC One X+ but has yet to confirm a roll out date for the software.

We’ve reached out for more information and we’ll update this post when and if we hear back.
