HTC President: Galaxy S4 Reviews Are Good for HTC One Sales

Earlier this week the first reviews of the Samsung Galaxy S4 went up across the web, and Mike Woodward, president of HTC in North America couldn’t be happier about them.

In an interview with Business Insider Woodward said HTC looks at the Galaxy S4 reviews “through the lens of the HTC One, and it stands up positively. The design seems to be attracting the most attention and we’re really proud of that.”

Almost every Galaxy S4 review, including GottaBeMobile’s review, compared Samsung’s flagship to the HTC One. While Samsung’s phone has many more arguably superfluous software features, many reviewers said they prefer the all-aluminum construction of the HTC One.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 shipments are set to outpace the HTC One by 5 to 1 in May.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is set to compete with the HTC One.

While the HTC One has a unique, beautiful design, the Samsung Galaxy S4 uses polycarbonate that looks and feels very similar to the Galaxy S3. Strangely, even with its plastic body the Galaxy S4 costs more than the HTC One on most carriers, even with less storage space.

Woodward also said “it’s really been a great week for us. We’re seeing brisk sales so far.” He wouldn’t give any firm sales numbers for the flagship phone, however.

When HTC first announced the HTC One, it had a late March release date, but supply issues pushed the release back to April. The delay put the phone up against the Galaxy S4, which seemingly isn’t too bad for HTC. The phone compares favorably to the Galaxy S4 and even the iPhone 5, though both Samsung and Apple have a lot more money to spend on advertising.

The one downside for HTC is that it’s phone is only on three of the four major U.S. carriers. The phone is only available on AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile, while the Galaxy S4 and the iPhone 5 are also available on Verizon. There are rumors that Verizon will carry the HTC One, but nothing is official yet.

I have one, and it is the best! The screen, sound, sense 5, blink feed, and camera are all fantastic! The only potential downside is battery life, but that may just be because I’m coming from a droid razr maxx. No regrets for me!
