A new report suggests that LG and Google could be working on a another Nexus smartphone together, possibly the Nexus 5, a device that has been rumored and is likely to arrive at some point later on this year.

Last year, LG and Google teamed up to release the Nexus 4, the fourth version of Google’s Nexus smartphone, following in the footsteps of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S and the Nexus One. It was LG’s first Nexus smartphone and because of the many issues that its launch faced, many have believed that it could be its last.

The Nexus 4 launch got off to a rocky start with site issues, backorders, confusion and a sell out and the issues continued into 2013 with Google and LG lobbing blame at each other. In the early part of the year, the Nexus 4 finally got back on track and the device has been widely available ever since. Despite those issues though, the device has remained a solid option and one of the best Android phones on the market.

There have been rumors swirling around about LG’s involvement in a new Nexus, possibly the Nexus 5, and a new report from Korea Times points to that as being a possibility.

It appears that LG and Google are working on another Nexus-branded smartphone together and it could be that it’s an upcoming Nexus 5 device, a device that would likely skip Google I/O and Android 4.3/Android 5.0 and appear later this year. Google typically releases a new Nexus smartphone towards the end of the year, right smack in the middle of the holiday shopping season.

Specs for this new LG Nexus smartphone are not clear but rumors have stated that it could have a larger display than the Nexus 4, possibly one at or over 5-inches, a growing trend amongst Android smartphones.

There are also rumors of a Motorola Nexus smartphone that could be out later this year so it’s entirely possible that LG isn’t the only one cooking up a Nexus smartphone with Google.

After all, we saw Asus work together with Google to release the Nexus 7 and Samsung work with it to produce the Nexus 10. Samsung is also rumored to be working on a Nexus 11 tablet while Asus and Google may debut a Nexus 7 2 at Google I/O later on this month.
