How to Answer the iPhone in Speakerphone All the Time

Published

on

When answering the iPhone, it is a pain to always have to hold it up to your ear. For those who take advantage of the speakerphone function, you can change the settings so that the default answering method is over the speaker.

While using the phone app isn’t what people mainly use their iPhones for anymore, calls are still an important function of the iPhone. If taking calls is a regular task for you, changing the way that you answer the phone can be a handy feature.

By default the iPhone uses the earpiece, which may not be as convenient.

For example if your hands are full, holding the iPhone up to your ear would be the hardest way to carry on a conversation. With a few easy steps this can be changed so the method of answering is from the earpiece, speakerphone or a bluetooth headset.

Tap Settings.

Tap SettingsOnce in Settings, tap General.

Tap General

Scroll down and select Accessibility.

Tap Accessibility

Towards the bottom of the screen, tap Incoming Calls.

Tap Incoming Calls

Under Incoming calls are three options: Default, Handset and Speaker. Default is for answering calls with the iPhone held up to the side of your face. Handset answers the phone with a bluetooth headset. And Speaker plays the audio of the call out loud in speakerphone.

To answer your calls with speakerphone automatically enabled tap Speaker.

Tap Speaker

Speaker will then replace default on the Incoming Calls screen.

Finished

Answering your iPhone with the speaker is great for personal use, but may not be great in all situations. In an office, the people around you may not appreciate hearing conversations that were meant to be just for you.

It would be a good idea to change this setting back to default, or to headset, when in a public place.

A bluetooth headset or speaker both work well for answering the iPhone as well. These devices allow for hands-free operation of the device and are louder than the built-in speakerphone.

A headset works great for answering the phone in a car or in an office as it does not broadcast the audio out loud, but through the earpiece you listen to. The bluetooth speaker may be a better fit for a personal office as it works like the speakerphone option, but is better suited for more than one person listening.
