AT&T Galaxy S4 Update Rolling Out Now

Published

on

On the heels of T-Mobile’s first Samsung Galaxy S4 update comes another as AT&T has also started rolling out its own update for the Samsung Galaxy S4, the first update in what will likely be a long line of them for Galaxy S4 owners.

Earlier today, T-Mobile Galaxy S4 owners became the first Galaxy S4 owners in the United States to get a software update. Now, they’ve been joined by the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 which is now receiving an update of its own which checks in at just over 20MB in size. The update is a bit mysterious as we haven’t yet been able to figure out exactly what it brings to the table.

In the case of the T-Mobile Galaxy S4 update, the update made it clear what it was bringing along. That update included ISIS app improvements and visual voicemail improvements as well. The contents of AT&T’s update remain unclear and we aren’t able to pinpoint anything new that the update has brought with it.

At the very least, the update is now rolling out to owners of AT&T’s latest Samsung smartphone and those who are keen on installing it can find it lurking in the Settings of the device. Checking for the update will prompt owners to download and install the small update and automatically start a process that should only take a couple of minutes to complete.

Once done, the device will reboot and the new, mysterious update will be on board. Those who are thinking about unlocking their bootloader when the moment arrives may want to hold off on installing this update until the all clear is given by developers. AT&T’s Galaxy S4 ships with a locked bootloader and it may be trying to stay ahead of devs who have come up with a way to unlock it.

The update is the first for the AT&T Galaxy S4 and will likely be one of many for the flagship smartphone. Samsung typically keeps its phones updated for years down the line and often adds new software features with updates that come in between the big ones. It’s unclear when the next smaller update will arrive but the next big update for the Galaxy S4 should be the upcoming Android 4.3/Android 5.0 update.

Google is rumored to be announcing a new piece of Android software at Google I/O, thought to possibly be Android 4.3 Jelly Bean or Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie. Whatever the case may be, it will likely be the next, or one of then next updates for the AT&T Galaxy S4.

The AT&T update made it FASTER! I know because I was update that my phone lagged a lot. I still have not confirmed but I am good with my eyes and totally saw the difference, ESPECIALLY how i was able to open up the RECENT apps (by holding down the home key) much more quickly!

I’ve been putting off doing this update since last night bc I wanted to read about it first….and after reading this article my phone (at this moment) decided on its own to do the update…really GS4. Good thing my worries were put to rest before this thing started making its own decisions.

Messed up root and my External SD card which was mapped to allow Google Play Music offline files to be stored there. I would have bought an iPhone if I wanted someone other than me to have this much control over what I do with my phone.

I also lost my root (which I was also using to enlarge packets sent and received to my SD card, amongst other things) and I also missed a business call at the exact moment my phone decided to automatically update (after my delaying this action twice.) I’m extremely angry with AT&T for this action, they really dropped the ball on us. I, too, would have kept my iPhone if I had known this was going to be the ongoing policy for the S4 under AT&T. It’s not THEIR phone, it’s MY PHONE – they should NOT be able to control it remotely. I am hoping a root app will disable this in the future.

my phone lags now, it used to be crisp in the way the screen flowed from the apps and windows now it is choppy in transitions. I DID NOT LIKE THEM UPDATING WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. I am now getting ready to adjust to no smartphone if this is the future of phones I used to be a heavy user of PDA’s for those that don’t know they are personal desktop assistants now they are rarely made. but they were much more advanced than these “dumbphones” they are dumb because in PDAs the software was quality and made sense. because of patents a
and other legal issues “dumbphones” wish they could be PDA’s. were would humanity be if “they” didn’t try and control us. as an endnote I suspect they are putting in the killswitches in our phones or time delay self destructive software so you end up buying a new phone in the future.

This update is killing my battery. I used to go 2 to 3 days and now it does not even last 24 hours.
