Kindle Fire HD Deal Drops Price to $179

Amazon has lowered the price of a new Kindle Fire HD by $20 in celebration of Mother’s Day.

The cheaper pricing is available only at Amazon’s website, and requires the use of the Fire4Mom coupon code at checkout. This coupon code will only work for users looking to purchase the Kindle Fire HD with a 7 inch display in 16GB and 32GB storage sizes – with or without special offers.

The Kindle Fire HD 7” with Special Offers and 16GB of onboard storage will set users back $179 with the coupon code, while the Kindle Fire HD 7” with Special Offers and 32GB of onboard storage will cost users $199 with that same coupon code. The Special Offers promotion allows user to get Kindle devices at a discount in exchange for advertisements on the device’s lockscreen.

Without the Special Offers promotion, the Kindle Fire HD 7” with 16GB of Onboard storage will cost $195 with the coupon, while it’s 32GB variant will cost $224.

This version of the Kindle Fire HD includes a 7” display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and includes a 1.2 GHZ dual-core processor. In addition to allowing users to browse and purchase, books, movies, televisions shows, and magazines, users can also stream content from Amazon’s Prime Instant Video service for $79.99 a year. A free one month trial is included with the device. All Kindle Fire devices include Wi-Fi.

Amazon is offering next day delivery however that may vary depending on what area the device needs to be delivered to.

Not to be out done by Amazon, Barnes and Noble is also lowering prices of its media tablets for Mother’s Day. From now until May 12, users can purchase the Nook HD for $149.99 and the Nook HD+ for $179.  The Nook HD includes 8GB of onboard storage, Wi-Fi, a 7” display with a resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels and a dual-core 1.3 GHZ processor. It normally sells for $199 and also has a 16GB variant that is on sale for $179 instead of its regular price, $229.

The Nook HD+ includes a dual-core 1.5 GHZ processor, Wi-Fi and 9” display with a resolution of 1920 x 1280 screen and 16GB of storage. A 32GB version of this device is on sale for $209, down from $299. These prices are available in-store and online.

Barnes and Noble recently updated their tablets to allow users to download applications from the Google Play Store. For now, Amazon’s Kindle tablets are restricted to downloading applications that are available from the Amazon App Store, even though their tablets also run Android.
