T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z Release Possibly Inches Closer

Published

on

The T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z, which has been rumored for arrival several times in the past, may have inched closer to release today as software certifications seem to suggest that something may be afoot, an exciting prospect for those that might be waiting to get their hands on Sony’s current flagship Xperia smartphone.

Over the past few weeks, it has become apparent that T-Mobile might be gearing up to launch the Sony Xperia Z on its 4G LTE network. This would be a big release as the Sony Xperia Z is available to customers in the United States, but only unlocked and not with 4G LTE data speeds. If T-Mobile does decide to release it, it would be the first carrier in the U.S. to do so.

Signs are pointing in that direction as an FCC filing seemed to hint at an impending arrival and just a short time ago, a software certification emerged at the PTCRB for a device that is thought to possibly be the T-Mobile version of the Xperia Z.

First discovered by Xperia Blog, the software certification is for the C6606 and C6616 variants of which the C6606 is thought to be T-Mobile’s version Sony Xperia Z. That model number was backed up by a start up guide from T-Mobile that leaked out, revealing not only the model number but the fact that it would be a variant of the Xperia Z.

The device is thought to be compatible with the carrier’s 4G LTE network which currently is only available in seven markets in the United States but will be expanding in the months ahead.

There is still no sign of a possible release date for the Sony Xperia Z which means that potential buyers are going to have to remain patient while it passes through the necessary hoops.

Sony’s Xperia Z is one of the top smartphones on the market but unfortunately, it has not yet been picked up by a carrier in the U.S., leaving it as a bit of an unknown in the U.S. The device is no slouch, featuring a glass design that is both dust and water resistant, a 5-inch 1080p display, quad-core processor, gorgeous 13MP camera, and more.
