A new rumor claims the Nexus 7 2 will feature a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor when it debuts at Google I/O next week.

The Snapdragon 800 processor was announced at CES 2013 and is expected to go into mass production later this month, which would time up with the Nexus 7 2 launch at Google I/O.

This news is contrary to an analyst note this morning which claims the new Nexus 7 will use an older Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. Both rumors agree the Nexus 7 2 will feature a higher resolution 1920 x 1200 resolution display which puts the display at 323 pixels per inch, a higher rating than the iPad mini, which could deliver a better viewing experience.

The Nexus 7 2 is rumored with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor.

If the Nexus 7 2 features a Snapdragon 800 processor, as VR-Zone claims, it would be the first tablet to come to market with the powerful processor. Here are several key features that the Snapdragon 800 processor brings to the table.

  • Ultra Low power usage
  • 4G LTE support
  • USB 3.0 support for faster transfers
  • QuickCharge 2.0 – Full charge in 3 hours instead of 7 hours
  • Improved battery life
  • Support for game engines like Unity, Epic and Unigine

The Snapdragon 600 processor is a step down from the Snapdragon 800, and powers the HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphones.

Google is expected to announce the Nexus 7 2 at Google I/O on May 15th during a long Keynote event. The Nexus 7 serves as Google’s flagship tablet, offering an affordable Android tablet with a very good user experience and multiple connectivity options.

The other Nexus 7 rumors point to improvements such as a 5MP rear-facing camera. The Nexus 7 does not feature a rear facing camera currently.

At this point it remains up in the air as to whether the Nexus 7 2 will run Android 4.3 or Android 5.0. Google is rumored to be working on both versions of Android, but rumors and leaks indicate Android 4.3 may be more likely. Android 4.3 would be a new version of Jelly Bean, with unspecified features and Android 5.0 would reportedly carry the Key Lime Pie name, also with unspecified features.

Gotta Be Mobile will be at Google I/O to go hands on with the new Nexus 7 as soon as Google announces the device.

haah ipad mini? the ordinary nexus 7 is better than it already – if the specs for this are true, it makes apple look an even more ludicrous decision for informed buyers. fortunately for them, there are a lot of idiots and sheep around :)

At least the iPad Mini and Nexus 7 are better than all those low-end Android tablets from HP (Slate 7), Samsung (Galaxy Tab 3), and Acer (Iconia A1).

Cannot agree with you enough! Especially for the last sentence when you reason why iPad mini still gets more sales, even when it has lower specs on almost every front (worse processor, screen, OS, price, port[lightening], native resolution)! Camera and the body look may be only plus it has!

most people are stupider then you think, they just think because of the name “Apple” is better. they don’t even know what’s inside the tablet and how it really works. that is why ipad got a better sale then any other tablet.
