Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Jelly Bean Roll Out Begins

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Android 4.1 Jelly Bean roll out has begun after a bit of a delay and it appears that the software is currently rolling out for owners of the aging tablet in Asian markets with other regions having to wait.

In March, Samsung reportedly ran into issues with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Jelly Bean update that delayed the update from the company’s initial target date. Those issues supposedly had something to do with the processor, possibly performance issues, though it now appears as though Samsung was able to work them out.

That’s because the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update is now, according to SamMobile, rolling out to owners in different parts of Asia. The update apparently is confined to Singapore, Indonesia, Singapore (StarHub), Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines (Globe), Singapore (SingTel), Philippines (Sun), Malaysia at the moment though the software will eventually emerge in markets outside of these.

Samsung typically uses a staggered approach to its software roll outs and other regions will likely see their software arrive sometime in the weeks or months ahead.

Carriers in the United States, which are typically slow to roll out their Android updates to both smartphones and tablets, will likely be far behind these regions and others when it comes to the Galaxy Tab 7.7 Jelly Bean update. Despite a lengthy wait, the update should roll out to devices in the United States at some point down the road.

The software brings the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 up from Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, a significant improvement for the tablet, at least when it comes to features.

Android 4.1 brings a number of new features to the table including faster UI speeds, better Browser and Calendar, improved camera app, widgets and multitasking and more. There have been complaints about lag when it comes to the updates for older devices, but if there are issues with the Galaxy Tab 7.7 update, we haven’t heard about them quite yet.

Adam, I live in Chile but I bought a Galaxy Tab 7.7 in the States last October. I read the article and checked on updates and it was available (432MB). I downloaded it and the Tab seems to be working the same as before, not slower or faster. However the “Android Process Media” error appears to be gone. All in all a pretty positive experience.
