The Nexus 7 2 release date could land in July according to a new report based on supply chain leaks which also claims Google is planning to sell 6-8 million new Nexus 7 devices in the second half of 2013.

Many expected Google would announce the new Nexus 7 at Google I/O yesterday, but the company skipped over hardware during the event, other than to talk about the ChromeBook Pixel and a Samsung Galaxy S4 Google edition.

While no Nexus 7 photos leaked showing off the device, there is enough noise to indicate that Google is working on a new 7-inch tablet for 2013, but the company stayed true to the promise of focusing on developers at Google I/O 2013.

A new report claims the new Nexus 7 will arrive in July.

A new report claims the new Nexus 7 will arrive in July.

The Digitimes report claims that supply chain sources point to a July Nexus 7 2 release date and bold plans to sell nearly twice as many new Nexus 7 tablets in the second half of 2013.

This new report reiterates the same new Nexus 7 specs we’ve heard before. The report indicates a Nexus 7 2 with a 7-inch 1920 x 1200 resolution, which means 323 pixels per inch — higher than the iPad 4 and iPad mini. We’ve also heard that the Nexus 7 2 will use a Qualcomm processor, but rumors are split on whether it will use the S4 Pro r the newer Snapdragon 800 processor.

A new Nexus 7 will reportedly retail for the same price, which makes sense give the higher price of Apple’s iPad mini and Google’s increased specs. It’s possible the first generation Nexus 7 will drop in price to continue as a cheaper Nexus 7.

In 2012, analysts peg Nexus 7 sales at around 5 million, though ASUS could not give actual numbers. It makes sense that Google and ASUS are planning for higher sales now that the tablet proved itself with consumers and based on increased Android adoption. Google announced 900 million Android activations at Google I/O 2013 on Wednesday.

The Nexus 7 2 could arrive with Android 4.3, a new software release which will bring Bluetooth Smart support and should arrive in the coming months according to a recent press release.

This is the same site that was practically guaranteeing a new Nexus would be announced this week….talk about back-pedalling. And now it’s July apparently. Keep giving new dates – you’ll get it right eventually. Bunch of clowns.
