Sony Xperia Ion Jelly Bean Release Passes Roadblock

Published

The Sony Xperia Ion Android 4.1 Jelly Bean roll out has inched closer to release today as the software has seemingly passed one of its final roadblocks as the software has seemingly been certified for arrival, ahead of its scheduled roll out at some point before the end of May.

Last month, Sony announced that it would be rolling out a handful of Xperia Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates by the end of May. Devices included in that announcement were the Sony Xperia S, Xperia SL, Xperia Arco S and the Xperia Ion. Sony has yet to issue any specific release dates for those software updates but we know that both the Xperia S and the Xperia Ion Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates should be on track for May.

The Sony Xperia Ion Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update is now closer to arrival.

Like the Sony Xperia S Jelly Bean update before it, the Sony Xperia Ion update has passed through certification at the PTCRB, a final hurdle that it needed to clear before its arrival in the days ahead. The listing, discovered by XperiaBlog, is for build 6.2.B.0.204, a version above the Xperia Ion Jelly Bean update that leaked out just a few days ago.

It’s likely that this new firmware is the final version of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update that the Sony Xperia Ion has been waiting for and it means that owners are now one step closer to replacing Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean of course is going to be a massive upgrade, in terms of features, over Android 4.0. The update includes not only a smoother user interface, but also will come with updates for the stock camera application, browser, calendar and more. Widgets and multitasking will be improved as well. We also expect Sony to put its own touches on the update though at the moment we aren’t exactly sure what those might be.

So with the end of May fast approaching, Sony Xperia Ion owners can now start preparing themselves for their biggest update in quite some time.
