Update: The new Xbox is called the Xbox One.

While there is no official name for the new Xbox, Microsoft has used the Next Xbox and a New Generation in materials leading up to the event.

The event today will focus on the console and the future of the Xbox platform. As Aaron Greenberg, Microsoft Interactive Entertainment Chief of Staff explained on the Major Nelson Podcast, The new Xbox event today is about, “revealing the next Xbox platform and our vision for the future of games, the future of entertainment.”

It’s not clear if this means Microsoft will show off the new Xbox console at the event today. Microsoft’s biggest competitor Sony failed to show the actual PlayStation 4 at an event earlier this year. Sony pushed a teaser out yesterday showing off many sneak peeks at the PlayStation 4, without offering a full look.

We will likely see the new Xbox user interface which rumors indicate will look like Windows Phone 8 or Windows 8.1 with more Live Tiles. We could also see confirmation of rumors that the new Xbox could connect to a cable box and that Microsoft is getting rid of Xbox Live points.

The first New Xbox price rumor claims a subscription model will be available for $299 with a two-year $10 a month subscription fee for Xbox Live.

Stay tuned for a closer look at the new Xbox and how it connects to mobile devices like Windows Phone, iPad, iPhone and Android.
