iPhone 6 Concept: Edge-to-Edge Display & Smart Home Button

Published

on

A stunning new iPhone 6 concept video shows an iPhone 6 with a larger edge-to edge display and a smart home button/bezel that supports taps and gestures for easier control.

During recent conversations Apple CEO Tim Cook left the door open for an iPhone 6 with a larger display and the rumors of a higher resolution iPhone 5S point to the possibility of a bigger screen in an iPhone 6 for 2014.

These possibilities, and talk of an iPhone 6 prototype without a home button merge in a new iPhone 6 concept that actually looks like something Apple could deliver.

This iPhone 6 concept includes a full edge-to edge display, multi-touch gestures on the lower bezel for more control of iOS and apps, though the concept ventures into the unbelievable when the creator shares a take on iPhone 6 specs.

4.5-inch Edge-to-Edge iPhone 6 Display

Like most concepts we see a mix of rumor and artistic license. In this iPhone 6 concept, which appeared on ConceptsiPhone, the creator shows off a full edge-to-edge display that doesn’t use any bezel on the edge of the phone. We’re not sure if Apple’s bezel saving algorithms from the iPad mini are up to handling no bezel, but if they are this is a nice looking design.

They larger 4-inch display boasts a 754 x 1296 resolution which is lower than the rumored 1.5 million pixels for the iPhone 5S, but again, this is a concept. The display adds an extra row of icons to the home screen, but doesn’t add any moe columns.

iPhone 6 Concept Design and Specs

This iPhone 6 concept looks similar to the iPhone 5 from the back, but appears without the glass inserts at the top and the bottom of the iPhone. The concept is 7.6mm thick, 58.6mm wide and 123.8mm tall.

The iPhone 6 specs listed at the end of the video, such as tow Apple A7 processors, a 256GB iPhone 6 option and massive cameras aren’t likely something we can expect, even on a phone analysts don’t expect will arrive until 2014.

Smart Bezel Replaces Home Button

A new version of IOS and this smart bezel would offer more control.

An iPhone 6 prototype with a larger display was reportedly spotted in late 2012 without the traditional home button. This allowed for a smaller device with a larger display, enabling easier one-handed operation overall.

this iPhone 6 concept uses a smart home button or smart bezel that responds to taps and gestures for control and not a physical home button. At the very least this is an interesting take on what this could enable.

All current rumors suggest the iPhone 6 will arrive in 2014, with at least two analysts pointing to the middle of 2014. Apple is reportedly working on the iPhone 5S for September according to multiple sources. The iPhone 6 is likely to be a completely redesigned iPhone, and Apple may use it to offer a larger screen size than the current 4-inch iPhone 5.

    Bravo Apple!
Copy everything from the Samsung Galaxy S4: bigger screen, higher hd resolution, better camera, etc…
That’s what they call innovation for their loyal sheep.
In 2014 there should be a new Samsung Galaxy S5 wich will years ahead of the iphone 6 or 7, just like the S3 is ahead of even the iphone 5.
If you can’t compete is easier to copy, right?
Shame to apple old phone technology.

      Bravo Samsung
Copy everything from the Samsung Galaxy S3 but put a: bigger screen, higher hd resolution, better camera, etc…
That’s what they call innovation for their loyal sheep.
I think that’s what you meant…you were too naive to think about Samsung’s so called “innovation” because of your misplaced hatred for apple….enjoy your Samsung S3 error..I mean S3 extra large…they got that concept of micro innovation from apple…wonder why? Think about who has become one of the worlds biggest tech giants using this model…ohhhh..now who is copying who?

GS4 as a bigger screen, higher HD resolution, better camera, etc than the GS3. If you call that innovation, you’re as blind as what you refer us to “iSheep.” Have fun playing with your plastic Lego. I guess Aluminum is too “grown-up” for you.

I’ve been talking about this for month: edge-to-edge and no physical home button with 4.5″ screen (same size as back metal piece). Nice thing is: same chassis as iPhone 5. I wouldn’t call this iPhone 6, but iPhone 5S instead because of the same physical design. So far, this is the most realistic and possible concept that Apple can actually do. Even with home button, Apple can keep the physical home button but resize or relocate it. It’s a home run design there. I’m on it.

But this is a great concept design…I dont think apple or Cook has the balls to go with this…or meet the production costs versus retail value with this design as of right now.

All apple has to do is put out a bigger screen to be the best. The reliability kicks all the others to the curb

Exactly – we love iPhone provided that the new iPhone comes with a larger size (probably 4.8 inches screen). I am now using Samsung Note 2 since my iPhone 4S pains my eyes everyday. Work hard people at Apple :-)
