Nexus 7 2 Features Emerge Thanks to FCC
The Nexus 7 2 launch date is rumored for July and now it appears some of its features have leaked ahead of that launch date thanks to a filing at the FCC that reveals a new Asus tablet called the K009, a tablet that is said to feature Nexus branding.
In the weeks since Google I/O and the lack of a Nexus 7 2 announcement, rumors have swirled in regards to the Nexus 7 2, the likely successor to the original Nexus 7 tablet that arrived on the Google Play Store in July of last year. All signs are pointing to a Nexus 7 2 launch in July though that remains unconfirmed. And while its features also remain unconfirmed by either Asus or Google, a new filing has evidently leaked many of those features.

The Nexus 7 2 features may have been confirmed by the FCC.
A filing at the FCC for a device called the Asus K009 shows a powerful device that is evidently going to be coming with Nexus branding. The filing, first discovered by Notebooks Italia, shows off a litany of likely Nexus 7 features including a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm APQ-8064 S4 Pro processor, LTE data speeds, 4,000 mAh battery, and surprisingly, a 5MP rear camera. The original Nexus 7 shunned a rear camera in favor of a single front-facing camera for video chats.
The screen size and resolution is not confirmed by the filing though suspicion points to a 7-inch display with 1080p resolution.
While this isn’t confirmed to be the Nexus 7 2 by name, the fact that the filing says that for marketing purposes it will be known as a Nexus is a pretty dead giveaway. Rumors have been flying around about a July launch and rumors have also suggested that Android 4.3 will be arriving a few weeks after June 26th when Google launches two new Nexus smartphones. Android 4.3 could certainly accompany the new Nexus 7 2 to shelves.
It’s looking like the device will at least be available on AT&T and T-Mobile, following in the footsteps of not only the Nexus 7 but the Nexus 4 and the Google Editions of the HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S4.
