LG Planning International Event in August

In a “save the date” email, LG informed members of the press that the electronics giant will be hosting an international event on August 7th. The event is centered around mobile products, though the phone-maker did not give any hints as to what will be shown off or announced at that time.

“LG Mobile Communications Company will be hosting an international media event on August 7,” the email to media reads.

lg_logoOne potential device that may get announced is the newly confirmed LG G series smartphone. Earlier this week, LG had confirmed that it was working with Qualcomm on delivering a smartphone with a Snapdragon 800 processor, which will make this flagship model among the most powerful smartphones available on the market.

Interestingly, it appears that for the new G series, LG will also be dropping the Optimus branding from the name. Current flagships, like the LG Optimus G, available on AT&T Mobility and Sprint Nextel in the U.S., and the AT&T LG Optimus G Pro, bear the Optimus moniker in the name. It looks like this will change with the new G series, however.

Details about the G series were not disclosed, however, but likely the device will come with a 1080p full HD display alongside the latest version of the Android operating system and with 4G LTE support. The device had been rumored to be arriving on Sprint’s network as the Optimus G2 in the past.

We’ll have to see if the August event will be hosting the debut of the G series. Given that the Snapdragon 800 processors are now being shipped to manufacturers to begin testing, it’s likely that LG will be among the first to debut a smartphone with this new powerful processor.
