HTC One S Android 4.2 & Sense 5 Update: Bad News Continues

Published

on

The HTC One S Android 4.2 update, which is said to be coming with Sense 5, has received even more bad news with a noted HTC leakster claiming that the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update for the One S won’t roll out and also saying that the One S Sense 5 update, despite the promise from HTC, likely won’t roll out either.

Earlier this year, shortly after the announcement of the HTC One and the new Sense 5 user interface, HTC promised Sense 5 updates for a number of its older devices including the HTC One X+, HTC One X, HTC Butterfly and HTC One S. And while the company hasn’t yet confirmed it, Sense 5 is thought to be arriving with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

None of those devices have yet to receive either update though the HTC Butterfly and HTC One X updates are thought to be close with at least one carrier expecting the HTC One X Android 4.2 update to arrive in July. And while there is only good news for the HTC One X, there has only been bad news for the HTC One S.

Rumors have suggested that the HTC One S Android 4.2 and Sense 5 update likely won’t be rolling out, rumors that seemed to be backed by the head of HTC Russia who claimed that the update was having technical difficulties. Once again, the update is rumored to be in trouble, with the noted @LLabTooFeR claiming, definitively, that the HTC One S Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update won’t roll out and that it’s “unlikely” to get Sense 5.

Again, this bad news does not rule anything out, but it does mean that an Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update and a Sense 5 update are highly unlikely to hit the HTC One S. @LlabTooFeR is reliable, particularly with Android updates for HTC devices. He claims, again, that the HTC One S processor situation is likely the cause as the company apparently doesn’t want to have to port the software to the HTC One S models that are running the Snapdragon S3 processor.

<blockquote><p><a href=”https://twitter.com/LunevAnton2011″>@LunevAnton2011</a> I know, but they have to port sense 5 to s3 chipset, while all devices running s4…</p>&mdash; LlabTooFeR (@LlabTooFeR) <a href=”https://twitter.com/LlabTooFeR/statuses/349432307687497728″>June 25, 2013</a></blockquote>

Other HTC One S models run the more efficient Snapdragon S4 but it seems HTC wants to keep all HTC One S owners equal. Of course, things could change in the future but at this point, the news continues to be bad for HTC One S owners hoping for Sense 5 and Android 4.2.

Same sad story as usual with HTC and roll outs…exactly the reason I still baulk at getting the HTC One despite the fact I really like it. HTC unpredictability.
