Rugged Casio G’zOne Commando 4G LTE Arrives on Verizon
The Casio G’zOne Commando 4G LTE is a rugged 4G LTE smartphone on Verizon that replaces the aging Casio G’zOne Commando which debuted on Verizon debuted two years ago.
Rugged smartphones don’t come to carriers every day, or even every year, so this is a welcome upgrade for users who need a phone that can handle water, dust, vibration, humidity and the perils of working outdoors.
The Casio G’zOne Commando 4G LTE delivers a larger 4-inch display and a 1.3MP camera on the front of the device, which the original was sorely missing.
One downside for the Casio G’zOne Commando 4G LTE, and rugged smartphones in general, is that it runs an older version of Android. While Google is likely to announce Android 4.3 in the coming months, and many new smartphones are on Android 4.2 and 4.1 the Commando 4G LTE is running Android 4.0 which is several versions old. This means users won’t get the newest features shown off on some other Android phones. Hopefully Casio and Verizon can deliver an upgrade straight to Android 4.2 in the very near future.
The Casio G’zOne Commando 4G LTE does boast simultaneous voice and data, which means users can talk and surf the web at the same time. For business users looking for a rugged smartphone this is an essential feature as they can make a call from a construction site and check plans or other documents while talking.
Users will enjoy the Military 810G rating which promises the Casio G’zOne Commando 4G LTE will survive drops, shock and water. The touch screen also works with gloves on, which is great for users that work winters and outdoors.
Users also gain access to the G’zGear multi-sensor tool which delivers, “the latest barometric tracking technology, earth compass, sun/moon displays, temperature comparisons, tide views, constellation gazer, and virtual trail functions,” according to the product page.
In addition to delivering 4G LTE speeds, which are as fast or faster than many home internet connections, the Commando 4G LTE is global ready so it will work in other countries.
Verizon sells the Casio G’zOne Commando 4G LTE for $99 after a $50 mail in rebate on a two-year contract.
