Asus Rep Claims K009 Is New Nexus 7 Tablet

Published

It appears that more than one Asus customer service representative knows about Asus’ plans for a new Nexus 7 as we have discovered another Asus customer service representative claiming knowledge of a Nexus 7 2 and telling an inquiring consumer, matter-of-factly, that the Asus K009 is indeed a new Nexus tablet.

For months now, Google has been rumored to be coming out with a new Nexus 7 tablet, currently dubbed new Nexus 7, Nexus 7 HD and Nexus 7 2. The company was rumored to be coming out with a new Nexus 7 2 at Google I/O though the event came and went without a major Android update or a new Nexus 7 tablet.

In the weeks since, rumors have ramped up and a Nexus 7 2 is now rumored for arrival in July, possibly alongside Android 4.3 Jelly Bean which is heavily rumored to be out sometime in the next few weeks. The most telling information came in the form of an FCC filing that displayed a device called the Asus K009, a device that looks similar to the Nexus 7 and one that apparently, according to the filing, will come with Nexus branding.

Interested consumers have apparently been bombarding customer service representatives with questions and it appears that some Asus customer service representatives may have spilled the beans early.

Earlier today, one Asus customer support representative told an inquiring customer about the Asus K009, saying that it would be out with a host of high-end specifications and would be out before the end of July. Whether or not that representative was operating on rumors or inside information is unknown.

What we do know is that the representative from earlier isn’t the only one disclosing information on the Asus K009. Gotta Be Mobile has obtained another chat log with an Asus customer service representative who is far less cooperative but is still willing to confirm one vital piece of information.

The Asus K009 is a tablet, not a notebook says one Asus rep.

According to this representative, the K009 is indeed a new Nexus tablet. He refuses to say any more and says that the details, including the release date, are still being worked out. He would not confirm the name as Nexus 7 2, or otherwise.

It's also a Nexus device, likely the Nexus 7 2.

As we’ve said many times in the past, information from customer service representatives is hard to trust. However, customer service reps have in the past been deadly accurate with inside information, the Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update comes to mind, so this new information is impossible to ignore, especially with Nexus 7 2 rumors swirling around.

It’s looking more and more likely that the K009 is a Nexus tablet and that it will indeed be a Nexus 7 tablet and that should mean that it will come with a 7-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 600 processor, 5MP rear camera, and 4G LTE data speeds, all upgrades over the original Nexus 7.

Thanks to R for the tip!

So you badger and harass CSR’s for information which may cost them thier jobs for useless informaiton? And you will all still have to wait on the official specs because nothing you’ve written here is confirmed
