Nexus 7 2 Release Rumors Swirl as July Begins

Published

on

While Google still refuses to offer any information on a rumored Nexus 7 2, Nexus 7 2 rumors continue to swirl and the latest has what appears to be an Asus customer service representative disclosing details about the new Nexus 7 ahead of its rumored launch date, and likely release, in July.

For weeks now, the Nexus 7 2 has been swirling around in the rumor mill, tempting those who are in the market for a new 7-inch tablet and aren’t enamored with the current Nexus 7 or the iPad mini which comes without a Retina Display. Google, for its part, still hasn’t announced a new Nexus 7 tablet though it’s clear that it and Asus have something up their sleeve.

The Nexus 7 2 launch date is again rumored for July.

The Nexus 7 2 launch date is again rumored for July.

Thanks to Bluetooth and FCC filings for Asus-made K008 and K009 tablets, it has become quite clear that the Nexus 7 2 is a real device and will be making it to shelves to replace the original. Exactly when is unknown though rumors have suggested that it will be coming in July and with Android 4.3 thought to be making an appearance this month, it’s entirely possible that the new Nexus 7 will touch down this month as well.

And while a specific Nexus 7 2 launch date hasn’t firmed up we have seen its specifications emerge several times with both the Bluetooth and FCC filings seemingly confirming the details. It appears now that Asus may have spilled the beans early, thanks to an alleged customer service representative who seemingly divulged all of the details early.

A user on Reddit nabbed what appears to be a conversation between a Nexus 7 2 buyer and an Asus customer service representative. The rep is unusually candid and states several things that line up with rumors.

First, he claims that it will be out before the end of July. He or she mentions Q2 but he or she is wrong as Q2 ended in June. Second, the rep runs down a list of specs, all of which add up with what we’ve seen:

  • 7 inch LED with 1980*1200 resolution
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 Quad Core CPU / Snapdragon APQ8064 CPU
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 32GB internal storage
  • 5Mpx rear camera and 1.2Mpx front camera
  • Android 4.3
  • 4000mAh battery
  • Wifi a/b/g/n,Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC enabled
  • LTE / WCDMA / GSM support

All of this adds up though whether the rep pulled those specs from rumors or Asus itself is unclear. It’s also entirely possible that this is a fake conversation though again, the specifications and the timing line up with rumors.

If this is the real deal, than those in the market for a new Nexus 7 2 should see an announcement arrive soon. The original Nexus 7 was released on July 13th of last year but there is no guarantee that Google will use that date again.

We’ve heard that Android 4.3 will arrive sometime this month but like the Nexus 7 2 release date, we haven’t seen a specific release date emerge.

I think it’s pretty clear that the rep pulled those quotes directly out of his Asus.

I think these rumors are rediculous. I think Google has been very disrespectful for their customers changing the release dates from march to may to June to July and may be august ( this is childish and unprofessional). I would rather wait and buy the apple Mini Pad 2 and pay extra $100 or so from a professional mature solid manufacturer who does not play games with their customers.
