An alleged Verizon HTC One press photo shows a new date, which could tip the Verizon HTC One release date as much later than consumers would like.
A small date in the press photo shows Thursday September 5th. While the dates on phones are not always an indicator of a release date, the HTC One on AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and Cincinnati Bell all show February 19th, the date HTC launched the HTC One earlier this year.
The Verizon HTC One release is “soon” according to HTC, which means a leaked HTC One press photo would make sense, as Verizon prepares a landing page to sell the HTC One to shoppers.
A Verizon HTC One release date in September would not be “soon” by the definition of most Verizon customers. Verizon and HTC announced the release will be this summer, which September 5th technically fits.
In the small photo, the front of a HTC One is visible, highlighting BlinkFeed. At first glance the photo looks just like the AT&T HTC One and Sprint HTC One, right down to the same BlinkFeed photos and stories.
There is one small difference that points to Verizon. The 4G LTE logo in the status bar identifies this as the Verizon HTC One. While there is a possibility that this is a well designed fake, the source is @evleaks, a well-known leaker with an impressive track record.
The image shows no Verizon logo on the front of the device. Verizon plastered a logo on the Galaxy Note 2 home button and on the upper corner of the BlackBerry Z10, but with the Samsung Galaxy S4 and now the Verizon HTC One it looks like this branding practice is done.
If Verizon and HTC are saving the HTC One release for the fall, the company will be bringing a seven month old smartphone to Verizon to face off with the rumored iPhone 5S and soon after competition from the Moto X, a Galaxy Note 3 and a rumored line of new Motorola Razr devices for 2013.
A previous Verizon HTC One leak points to a release in July, which would offer the Verizon HTC One a better chance at competing with existing smartphones on Verizon’s network.
