Verizon HTC One Release Date: Does This Photo Tip September?

An alleged Verizon HTC One press photo shows a new date, which could tip the Verizon HTC One release date as much later than consumers would like.

A small date in the press photo shows Thursday September 5th. While the dates on phones are not always an indicator of a release date, the HTC One on AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and Cincinnati Bell all show  February 19th, the date HTC launched the HTC One earlier this year.

The Verizon HTC One release is “soon” according to HTC, which means a leaked HTC One press photo would make sense, as Verizon prepares a landing page to sell the HTC One to shoppers.

A Verizon HTC One release date in September would not be “soon” by the definition of most Verizon customers. Verizon and HTC announced the release will be this summer, which September 5th technically fits.

In the small photo, the front of a HTC One is visible, highlighting BlinkFeed. At first glance the photo looks just like the AT&T HTC One and Sprint HTC One, right down to the same BlinkFeed photos and stories.

There is one small difference that points to Verizon. The 4G LTE logo in the status bar identifies this as the Verizon HTC One. While there is a possibility that this is a well designed fake, the source is @evleaks, a well-known leaker with an impressive track record.

The image shows no Verizon logo on the front of the device. Verizon plastered a logo on the Galaxy Note 2 home button and on the upper corner of the BlackBerry Z10, but with the Samsung Galaxy S4 and now the Verizon HTC One it looks like this branding practice is done.

If Verizon and HTC are saving the HTC One release for the fall, the company will be bringing a seven month old smartphone to Verizon to face off with the rumored iPhone 5S and soon after competition from the Moto X, a Galaxy Note 3 and a rumored line of new Motorola Razr devices for 2013.

A previous Verizon HTC One leak points to a release in July, which would offer the Verizon HTC One a better chance at competing with existing smartphones on Verizon’s network.

The question is how often is that date incorrect… Not often I believe? I’ll have to check….

Verizon would be stupid to launch the HTC One in September! By then the phone will be 7 months old! Might as well wait for a better phone…This is making me mad. I’ve been waiting for this phone ever since it launched back in February. Verizon better make some improvements on the HTC one or I might just wait longer for a newer/better phone! This is ridiculous! Good job Verizon.

Disaster Verizon…big KABOOM disaster. That’s your HTC One release blowing up in your face if you we’re to wait until September 5 to release this phone. You have already wasted far too much time. Come September people will be waiting for the latest iPhone…the HTC One will be ancient history. Silly Verizon.

This may be true, but Verizon is in the business of making money. They will make money whether you buy an S4 or an iphone 5. It matters little to them. Most of their subscribers are existing ones, not new ones- and they tend to stick around rather than leave for another carrier. The bottom line is that Verizon makes money on their data plans and upgrades fees so there’s little incentive to bring great phones to their network. They would much rather be sure the phones work great with much testing than to give you something new that is less tested. This is the reality.

In the Fall, if I’m having to choose from a 7 month old HTC One, or a brand new IPhone, I’m getting the IPhone. Verizon really shit the bed on this phone.

How hard would it be for Verizon to say the HTC One will be released on X date? They just come off looking incredibly inept.

Where is Adam? We demand another Adam Mills piece that regurgitates the phones specs again.

Anyway this is too little, too late for me. I left Verizon for a 64GB One on ATT last week. Supposed to arrive tomorrow.

HTC DNA was released November 2012 but the picture shows December 7, Austin, Tx. If there is any correlation, it is there to throw people off the trail.

The date on the phone in product renders have never corresponded with the actual release date.

That will be just in time for AT&T to have completed it’s network upgrade. They have really improved it around here (SF Bay Area – North), and I suspect in lots of other places. Carriers come and go over time. You don’t marry them. Would you want to stick with a carrier that plays games with you, offers inferior equipment, but the same prices?
