Verizon HTC One Release Date: Don’t Count on September 5th

Published

on

Yesterday, we saw the first official Verizon HTC One image leak out, an image that showed off the looks of the Verizon model for the first time and also started a firestorm thanks to a date that scribed on the front of the device. And while that September 5th date remains a possibility when it comes to the Verizon HTC One release date, those looking to buy shouldn’t count on it

Several weeks ago, HTC and Verizon announced the Verizon version of the HTC One, a device that is already available on AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile and has been since April. At the time and in the days since, HTC and Verizon have remained mum on specifics, neglecting to offer any details on features, price or its release date.

Don't count on the Verizon HTC One release date being September 5th.

Don’t count on the Verizon HTC One release date being September 5th.

Of course, the Verizon HTC One rumor mill has been hard at all though details remain scarce. Over the past few weeks, here is what we have heard about the Verizon HTC One release date:

  • Very early on, after the official announcement, we heard that Verizon was trying to get it out by the end of June.
  • We heard from someone who would have knowledge of a release date that a date wasn’t set in stone and that Verizon was taking its time.
  • We heard that the device was about three to four weeks away from launch, back at the end of June.

Just yesterday, we saw two more revelations occur. The first, the Verizon HTC One passing through the Bluetooth SIG, one of the final roadblocks to its release. And more importantly, we saw the device leak out for the first time in the flesh with the reliable @evleaks unearthing a photo for the world to see.

An alleged Verizon HTC One press photo contains a new date.

September 5th appears on the Verizon HTC One’s press image.

The photo, while offering a glimpse at the device itself, also added fuel to the fire as it contained a date of September 5th. In the past, we’ve seen these dates correspond to launch dates and that notion has led many to believe that September 5th could be the Verizon HTC One release date. As we argued yesterday, there are plenty of reasons why that probably won’t be the case.

For those that need more reason not to count on September 5th, a date that would be three months after the initial announcement, @LLabTooFeR, a respected HTC insider and notable leakster claims that there isn’t any validity to the September 5th release date. And while he can’t say if it will be coming sooner or later than that, he does say that it will still be coming in the future.

Granted, he isn’t Verizon, but if he is skeptical of September 5th, it’s safe for prospective buyers to be skeptical as well. Summer stretches into September as well so it’s also possible that we could see it launch later than September 5th.

However, now that it has passed through Bluetooth SIG and now that the HTC One Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update has rolled out, it’s possible that we could see something emerge in the near future. Exactly when remains unclear but at this point, consumers shouldn’t count on September 5th being the official release date for the Verizon HTC One.

At this point most Verizon customers aren’t counting on anything…and some have decided to becoming AT&T customers because they were tired of waiting. Verizon, you messed this release up big time and HTC, you foolishly allowed them to do it.

I’m waiting till the 18th of this month and I’m off to ATT if I dont hear any info! Wtf is wrong with these idiots? Even if their adding some new hardware to the phone they could still release information on wtf we’re to expect that makes it so “special”. At this point they are giving NO REASON to stay with their service and alot of people (including myself soon) arent.

The 64GB One I ordered from ATT arrived today. That is a reliable indicated that Verizon should release it in about 15 days; roughly one day after the return window closes for me.

I will probably feel a pang when VZW finally does ship it but on the other hand I don’t expect VZW to offer a 64GB version. I put 20GB of music on mine and still have like 30GB free. Sitting in my home office the phone is getting about -95dbm of LTE which is not as strong as the -85dbm of 3G that my Verizon phone gets but it seems to work just fine.

    Thanks, Verizon!

This may be a stretch, but here’s my theory:

Verizon may be looking at a disappointing financial quarter earnings report (expected July 18) and maybe they’re holding off on the official HTC One release news until after the earnings report to help counter potential stock value decline? … just a thought.

interesting theory… may not be far off

Disappointing? I think Verizon will have disappointing quarters now and next if they don’t start coming up with current phone equipment. I don’t think the iPhone 5S is going to be a major upgrade – so any success soon will rely on Android. Quite a few people are leaving Verizon. Between all the “no contract” providers, and AT&T’s beef up of their network – Verizon will join the rest of the pack. All they have to offer is the 16Gb Samsung S4. It even appears that they will lose the exclusivity of the “Droid” line. If they wait much longer on the HTC one, it will be seen as bad press rather than good. Too little too late!

This phone will only be released in Chicago on 5-September; everyone else will be listening to Adam Mills’ rubbish for local speculations.

It will be pointless by that point. The dark cloud of Samsung galaxy note3 will be upon us and Htc One will be yesterday’s news.

The HTC ONE on Verizon comes out at the end of July 2013. The stores will be receiving it around the 15th of July. It will most likely be priced at $250.00 with a $50.00 rebate.

Where did you get that information, insideout? Very specific, hope you’re right!

I was in a Verizon store tonight and a super nice employee asked me if I had any questions. I said, “Yes, but I bet you won’t have the answer….When is the HTC One coming to Verizon?”. The employee moved closer, speaking quietly so other employees wouldn’t hear, and said, “Looks like it’s going to be August. That’s what all the Verizon employees think.”
