Best iPhone & iPad Games and Apps Go Free: Score $50 in Apps

Published

on

This week Apple’s iOS App Store turns five years old, and to celebrate some of the best apps and games for the iPhone and iPad are now available for free.

Many of the apps and games available typically cost a few dollars, but many are now free for the first time in their history. Some are older favorites like Infinity Blade 2 and Tiny Wings, while others are new apps like Badland. There is no Apple page for all of the free apps yet, though Techtola has a constantly updating list of the apps and games that are part of the celebration.

The celebration can save iOS users a lot of money on some great apps, including one that typically costs $20. Here’s a few of the apps and games that stand out among the short list that’s already available.

Sword & Sworcery EP

Sword & Sworcery EP

The popular Sword & Sworcery EP is an action/adventure game with beautiful art and a fantastic soundtrack. The game focuses a lot on puzzles that use the touchscreen and other aspects of the iPhone or iPad in unique ways. It was well worth the original $4.99 price for the universal version, and definitely worth picking up for free.

Traktor DJ

Traktor DJ

Traktor DJ is a powerful DJ tool for the iPhone and iPad that musicians or just those who want to try their hand at DJing will enjoy. The app typically costs $19.99, so even users with a minimal interest might want to pick it up while it’s free.

Day One

Day One

Day One is a journaling app that lets users sync their daily thoughts between their iPhone, iPad and Mac using iCloud. It’s a niche app, as not everyone wants to keep a journal, but for those who do want a digital journal, Day One is one of the best options. The app typically costs $2.99.

Tiny Wings

Tiny Wings 2

Tiny Wings is a simple game where gamers try to help a flightless bird slide through hills to “fly” as far as it can before night falls. It’s a fun game for the usual $0.99 price, and an easy recommendation as a free game.

These are the top picks, but Apple offers over $50 worth of free iPhone and iPad apps for users to stock up on. We expect to see more apps arrive as the celebration officially kicks off.
