Microsoft Windows Phone head Joe Belfiore had posted some recent vacation photos to Flickr that are believed to have been captured with Nokia’s hotly anticipated Nokia EOS smartphone. The Nokia EOS will be the first Windows Phone 8 smartphone to feature Nokia’s 41-megapixel PureView technology, a feature that was borrowed from the Symbian-powered Nokia 808 released a little over a year ago. The smartphone is expected to arrive on U.S. carrier AT&T‘s network and may launch under the moniker of the Nokia Lumia 1020.

DONE! 3rd Marathon in 3 Countries in 6 months! WOO HOO!

The EXIF metadata information from the posted images say that the device used was the Lumia 1020. Given that EXIF data could easily be altered or forged, we would typically caution against believing such information entirely on the web. However, as the pictures were uploaded by the Windows Phone head himself from Microsoft, there is little reason to believe that Belfiore would forge something like this.

According to The Vergeone image posted has a 5-megapixel resolution while a second image has a 3.7-megapixel resolution. Both images were subsequently marked as private.

With PureView technology on the same sensor on the Nokia 808, users can choose what resolution they shoot in. Additionally, it’s rumored that Nokia will allow users to capture one photo at full resolution and a second photo at a reduced resolution suitable for sharing. This could be the case for easy upload to Flickr as a full resolution image could hover around the 15 MB range each.

Additionally, a feature of the Nokia Lumia 1020 is zoom. If you zoom in, given that there won’t be optical zoom, you’d likely lose some resolution and won’t be able to capture an image at the full 41-megapixel resolution while you’re using the zoom. Despite that fact, you’d still have a decent 3-, 5-, or even 8-megapixel image when zoomed in, which is a lot better than starting with the iPhone 5’s 8-megapixel camera and performing digital zoom, which will result in a lot of noise in this case.

Nokia has an event scheduled for July 11 to announce the Lumia 1020.

41 megapixel, I do both in this wonder, I talk to me wide-angle or telephoto lenses, because for a camera with such resolution if it has to be improved angles of the shots … asking for too much silly tricks.
