Nexus 7 2 Launch Pegged for Late July

Published

on

Google remains mum about the Nexus 7 2 but according to new information, it appears that the device will land sometime toward the end of July with a specific date still yet to be revealed.

While Asus and Google continue to be quiet about any plans for a new Nexus 7, rumors suggest that a device called the Asus K009, which recently passed through the FCC, will indeed be a new Nexus 7, currently called Nexus 7 2 or Nexus 7 HD.

Rumors have pegged July as the device’s release month and with the month pressing on, specifics are starting to emerge.

The Nexus 7 2 launch is said to be coming by the end of July.

According to a report from Taiwanese publication Economic Daily, courtesy of RBMen, the Nexus 7 2 will be launched in late July and could do so with a $299 price tag. It appears that this may be the starting price tag which could mean a $100 price jump from the $199 Nexus 7 that arrived in July of last year. If true, it would also put the Nexus 7 at a price point that is much closer to the iPad mini which falls in at $330.

This isn’t the first time that we’ve heard about a possible price jump as another report claimed that the Nexus 7 2 would start at $220, or, $20 more expensive than the current Nexus 7.

No specific launch date is mentioned though the last day of July is July 30th. And with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean likely on board, it’s becoming increasingly likely that we’ll see both the Nexus 7 2 and Android 4.3 before the end of the month.

This could be the Nexus 7 2.

It’s unclear just how Google manages to justify the price increase, if there is one, though the Nexus 7 2 is said to indeed be coming with a number of high-end features including a 7-inch full HD display, quad-core processor of the Snapdragon 600 variety, 32GB of storage space, 4G LTE data speeds, and a battery that is 3950 mAh.

We’ve seen the Asus K008 pass through certification too, a sign that there will likely be a Wi-Fi only model in addition to the LTE model that will likely be heading to AT&T and T-Mobile and possibly Verizon as well.

For now, Nexus 7 2 rumors should be taken with a grain of salt, particularly those about price, and those interested in the device should circle the end of July in pencil as it appears as though it could be in line with the Nexus 7 2 launch.

“No specific launch date is mentioned though the last day of July is July 30th.”

I guess you aren’t up to speed with the latest rumors about Julius Caesar tacking an extra day onto his month.

If the price jumps to that high, I will loose all love for the Google Nexus 7 2. That’s why I’ve been wanting it in the first place.

If they do raise the price that high ($299), may look towards the galaxy tab that was just released or the new kindle instead. I’m thinking the price point is going to be more at the $220 point as they aren’t going to be making money off of it, but more likely getting more people to use Android. Forget about competing against ipad mini. Mac people will usually buy overpriced Macs, but google is aiming at the larger percent of users.

$299 is too high. I’ll pick up an older one for cheap rather than pay that for the new one. The appeal of the Nexus tablet range is its ultra competitive pricing.

299$, would they be a really big difference between nexus 7 1 and nexus 7 2? As Mac lover, I am waiting nexus 7 2 only for his price, but now I’ll consider iPad mini as an option,

I thought I was going to wait for this, but 300 is too steep for what Ill be using a tablet for (browsing the internet and playing very simple games). I wont be spending 300$ for that and I guess I’ll start looking elsewhere.

At $229 it was a sure fire purchase. At $300 its not even a consideration.

Sorry Google, but youve priced me out of a purchase…

I am sure 299 will be for the 32gb LTE toting version, while the 16gb wifi only will be in the 199 to 229 range

Hey everyone $299 is the top price now! It also say a $20 price jump in the article… Relax a few days and wait for official word… This article is all speculation and rumor.. I have faith in Google.

This reminds me of high school rumors and how everyone gets pissed off before any facts are out…
