Google’s New Nexus 7 Tablet Shows Up In Official Press Shots Revealing Slim Profile

Ahead of Google’s scheduled event this week, it looks like the much rumored second generation Nexus 7 tablet is now appearing in a series of leaked press shots that leave no hardware details to the imagination. The revealing photos show that the tablet is “longer and thiner [sic],” according to famed leakster @evleaks, when compared to the original Nexus 7 slates offered today. The leakster estimates that the device will bear dimensions of 204.4 X 115.6 mm.

The thinner and longer dimensions may be accurate as earlier leaks of the slate show a device with slimmer side bezels that mimic what Apple had done on the 7.9-inch iPad mini to keep the illusion that the device is smaller than it appears. Samsung employed a similar strategy on its 8-inch third generation Galaxy Tab series that we had recently reviewed as well.

Prior to this leak, the second generation Nexus 7 slate was detailed in a leaked video as well.

One notable design difference that we’re able to spot off the bat is that the Nexus logo on the rear side is now written sideways, occupying the length of the display. On the first generation slate, it was written across the back occupying the width. Also, it appears that the device may have stereo speakers that project to the rear as there appears to be speaker grills on the top and bottom of the slate. The new tablet will also have front- and rear-facing cameras as well.

The time on the device’s screen is listed as 4:30, hinting that Google may debut Android 4.3 with the slate. The device is expected to be available by the end of the month. There are rumors that wireless charging will be included in at least some variants.
