Google New Nexus 7 Announcement and Release Details
Google just took the wraps off the new Nexus 7 at a special event where the company also announced a new version of Android.
The Nexus 7 2, or new Nexus 7, arrives with a collection of new features that make it worth checking out over the previous generation, even the slightly higher price tag.
We have a higher resolution screen, a 5MP rear facing camera, HDMI support and much more on board the new Nexus 7.
The official name of the new Nexus 7 is simply, Nexus 7, but the product has a new model number, NEXUS7-ASUS-2B16 and NEXUS7-ASUS-2B32, which users will see on retail shelves this week.
The new Nexus 7 arrives as the new Nexus 7, with pre-orders today for a new Nexus 7 release date of July 30th.
The new 7-inch Android tablet the company hopes will compete against the iPad mini and the Kindle Fire HD during the busy 2013 holiday shopping season.
New Nexus 7 Display
The Nexus 7, includes a 7-inch display like the first model, but Google and Asus deliver a higher resolution 1920 x 1200 resolution display that delivers a 323 ppi rating. What this means to consumers is that text and photos should look very good on the Nexus 7, with no visible pixels.

For comparison the iPad mini display is a lower resolution at 163 ppi, though rumors suggest Apple will deliver an iPad mini 2 with Retina Display to boost this up to 324 ppi later this year.
An anti-scratch, anti-fingerprint glass covers the 7inch display, extending to the edges of the device. We’ll need to wait to see if Google went with Gorilla Glass, something that was left off of the original Nexus 7.
New Nexus 7 Design
The new Nexus 7 design is similar in looks to the original Nexus 7, but the device is 2mm thinner and and almost 6mm narrower which means users will need to look for new Nexus 7 cases for the new tablet. The new Nexus 7 is also a little lighter.

Google and Asus stuck with a matte black back for the device, but it looks like the dimples from the original Nexus 7 are not there. The Nexus 7 2 now includes speakers on the top and the bottom edge and a camera on the back of the device.
The new Nexus 7 includes virtual surround over the speakers and on headphones, including movies from Google Play.

Inside the new Nexus 7 there are a collection of upgrades that add to the experience and offer standard tablet features like a new rear-facing camera.

The new Nexus 7 battery should last 9 hours of HD video playback and 10 hours of web browsing according to Google. The new Nexus 7 supports Qi wireless charging.
One new Nexus 7 model supports LTE connectivity on Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile.
New Nexus 7 Cameras
The new Nexus 7 features a 5MP rear-facing camera. This is a first for the Nexus 7 which shipped last year with no rear-facing camera to keep costs down. Now that the market considers a tablet camera a standard feature, and Google increased the price, we get a 5Mp shooter.
