Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 Update Confirmed

Published

on

While Google didn’t explicitly confirm the Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for arrival, the update has seemingly been confirmed by a listing on Google’s developer page that lists binaries for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 update, a sign that the update will indeed be coming to users at some point down the road.

Earlier today, Google confirmed the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for arrival and announced that it would start pushing for a number of devices starting today. That list includes the Nexus 4, older Nexus 7, Nexus 10 and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the former flagship that first launched in December of 2011 alongside Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus, at least the unlocked model, should see Android 4.3 emerge relatively soon.

Google did not confirm the update for the carrier-locked versions of the Galaxy Nexus, including the Verizon Galaxy Nexus and Sprint Galaxy Nexus, but thanks to the binaries listed on Google’s developer site, we know that the Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.3 will roll out at some point, it’s just not entirely clear when.

The Verizon Galaxy Nexus, also known as ‘toro’, has its Android 4.3 (JWR66V and JSS15J) update clearly listed on there which is great news for owners of Verizon’s Nexus smartphone. Verizon of course hasn’t confirmed any thing yet and we don’t expect to see any kind of timing emerge until much closer to the actual roll out.

The Verizon Galaxy Nexus update process has never been easy.

Typically, the Galaxy Nexus on Verizon doesn’t get major Android updates until weeks after the other Nexus devices which could mean that it won’t see it until August or September. Given the amount of issues that Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners have been experiencing since Android 4.2, owners are likely hoping to see it emerge sooner than that though the carrier has proven time and time again that speed isn’t its forte.

What we will likely see is an update that contains all of the features of Android 4.3 including the new Bluetooth LE and OpenGL and we should see the update correct at least some of the bugs that have been plaguing owners.

It’s now just a matter of when.

The little but forgotten Galaxy Nexus keeps on getting BIG updates from Big Red. It’s like Verizon is saying ” Don’t worry gnex I got your back” Thanks Big Red

I love my Galaxy Nexus. Just bought it out of contract for only $150 the other day. Even with the “problems” in 4.2 it still serves me well.

Verizon had better put this 4.3 update out in a timely manner. Everyone who bought a gnex when it first came out, has their 2yr contract expire by the end of the year or soon after. If Verizon is smart (and typically, with these updates, they’re not) they will very quickly release [ruin] 4.3 to all those users, just to show that theyre not forgotten and as a signal of good faith……or just to keep those customers. Period. I have HATED my mistake of switching to verizon for this phone ever since the first failed update. Will I stick with them if they push 4.3? Laughable… Will it be nice to have it on the phone before I switch carriers? Already done that with a custom rom. 4.3 is definitely an improvement that Vzw Gnex users need.

Confirmed? Hardly! Google can release binaries till the cows come home and it doesn’t mean Big Dread will be willing to push an update. Verizon has never cared about the Nexus.

They postponed the launch so it wouldn’t make the Droid Razr with 2.3 look bad. They postponed the 4.1 update, again, to keep all the 4.0 phones from looking (as) bad. Same with 4.2.

Now, the Galaxy Nexus is staring down the barrel of the dreaded 18 month support cut-off. There’s a really good chance Big Dread will decline Google’s first update attempt for “stability concerns” so they can decide the Gnex is too old to update again.

Verizon, do your worst. I’m switching to T-Mobile as soon as my contract’s up. You’ve had your three strikes. Now I want a REAL Nexus experience.

you people are fooling yourselves if you think Verizon gives a molecule about any of you. You’ll be lucky to get 4.3 and i would not expect anything after that. It’s a phone coming up on two years old very soon anyway, so its about ready for the dustbin.

Love my GNex but with the 4.2.2 update, my corporate exchange mail sync has been sketchy, at best. Speaking to Verizon, they confirmed this was a software issue plaguing 4.2.2. Hoping 4.3 update comes soon and that the exchange mail fix has been made. :(
