10 Exciting iPhone 5S Competitors

Published

on

Sometime this fall, and probably not September 6th, Apple will introduce a new iPhone that will replace the current iPhone 5. That device is thought to be called the iPhone 5S and it’s thought to be coming with a number of upgrades. Even with the upgrades, consumers won’t have it easy as the iPhone 5S will face stiff opposition when it arrives later this year.

Every year, Apple delivers a new iPhone to replace the iPhone from the year previous. In the case of the iPhone 5, which arrived back in September of last year, its successor is said to be the iPhone 5S, a device that will keep the same design as the iPhone 5 but tack on a number of improvements. Those improvements are said to include a better camera, improved processor, and quite possibly a fingerprint reader that will enhance security.

The device will likely also head to U.S. Cellular’s 4G LTE network for the first time, joined by the usual suspects, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon. Sources can’t agree on a specific launch or release date though it appears likely that it will launch in September and be released by September 28th. None of that is set in stone but at this point, signs are pointing in that direction.

Whatever the case may be, it’s clear that there is a new iPhone on the way this fall. In years past, the iPhone has faced stiff opposition from competitors like the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note. Companies like HTC and Sony have also released devices into the fray. And while the market is currently chock full of devices, the fall looks like it could boast an even larger lineup of choices, both old and new, iPhone 5S included.

With iPhone 5S buyers in mind, here, we take a look at what we think will be the ten biggest competitors to the iPhone 5S when it arrives sometime this fall.

Believe it or not, the iPhone 5 will be one of the biggest iPhone 5S competitors. While there are rumors that it could be discontinued, we've argued that that isn't likely to happen. Instead, Apple will likely drop the price of the device down to $99 on-contract, making it a tantalizing option for those in the market for the iPhone 5S.

No, it may not have a new processor or the same camera that the iPhone 5S employs, but it will share a design and have 4G LTE data speeds, just like its successor. It will also get iOS 7.
