Samsung Galaxy S2 Android 4.2 Update In Doubt

Published

on

Doubt has been cast upon the Samsung Galaxy S2 Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update thanks to a report that claims that Samsung is experiencing issues with TouchWiz.

While Samsung hasn’t announced any Android 4.2 or Android 4.3 plans for its devices, rumors had suggested that the aging Samsung Galaxy S2, which received Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in the United States earlier this year, would be getting the upgrade to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean at some point in the future. Up until now, that update looked good for arrival. Now, it’s up in the air.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 Android 4.2 update is in doubt.

According to German language site Connect, Samsung may wind up cancelling the Galaxy S2 Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update due to issues with its TouchWiz interface. The site doesn’t share any specifics but given what we’ve heard about Samsung’s Android 4.2 progress, it wouldn’t be surprising if the company indeed was having issues.

There has been talk of Samsung having issues with Android 4.2 with the company all but confirmed to have cancelled the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.2 update in favor of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean later this year. It’s possible that the Galaxy S3 Android 4.2 update might be in doubt as well.

Samsung was rumored to be ending updates for the Galaxy S2 with Android 4.2 so with Android 4.2 in doubt and Android 4.3 and unlikely remedy, the Galaxy S2 could ultimately wind up remaining on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Obviously, this probably won’t sit well with consumers, if it does happen. However, if Samsung is indeed experiencing issues, then users are probably better off with a more stable version of Android.

We’ve heard from several Galaxy S2 owners who have said that they are having less than perfect experiences on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Google’s software that it released back in July of last year.

Samsung typically gives users some insight into its Android updates and it could be that we hear from it at the Galaxy Note 3 launch which is all but set for September. And while the outcome for Galaxy S2 owners could turn out good, at the moment, there is a good chance that the device will remain on Android 4.1, officially, forever.

my galaxy nexus has just updated to 4.3 and asaik the s2 has similar power – my gnex runs fine with 4.3, faster and smoother than 4.2.

so its a bit unfair if the gs2 misses out.
