Nexus 4, Nexus 7 Android 4.3 Updates Hitting More Users

Published

on

The Nexus 4 and the Nexus 7 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates appear to be flowing out freely to users, just a week after Google announced the roll out for both Nexus devices.

Last week, Google announced both the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update and the new Nexus 7, a device that arrived on shelves with the new Android update stock, out of the box. The company also announced that it was beginning the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates for owners of Nexus devices including the Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10 and Galaxy Nexus.

Like all Google updates to Nexus devices, the software has been rolling out Over-the-Air, slowly. While some users received their updates last week, plenty of other users have been waiting for their update to arrive. Today, we finally received both the Nexus 4 Android 4.3 update and the Nexus 7 Android 4.3 update, a sign that the updates are rolling out to even more users and are likely flowing out freely to owners of the current Nexus smartphone and the older Nexus tablet.

In fact, we heard from a number of Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 owners who saw the updates roll out last night so it seems that after a week, Google is content to let everyone have the new software.

The Nexus 7 Android 4.3 update apparently tackles Android 4.2 issues.

The updates, when available, will prompt owners for download and once that process begins, it will just be a few minutes while the software automatically downloads and installs itself. Once that happens, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean will be replaced by Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, which includes a number of new features including Bluetooth Low Energy, tweaks to Photosphere and the camera app and more.

It also comes with bug fixes and additions that should help with the performance on both the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 7, the latter of which has been plagued by issues since the arrival of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean in November of last year.

Yesterday, we saw one carrier confirm Android 4.3 Jelly Bean for its Galaxy Nexus, but beyond that, carriers have not been quick to confirm anything for non-Nexus devices.

DO NOT UPDATE. Wait until Google releases an official statement apologizing and assuring you the update won’t brick your device. Many users have lost their phones. I’ve been waiting over 24 hours for instructions on how to send mine back and get a replacement…
