Samsung’s Android 4.3, Android 4.2 Update Situation Takes a Twist

The Samsung Android 4.2, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean situation has taken a strange twist today as the Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus is reportedly receiving its Android 4.2 update even as the Galaxy S2 Android 4.2 update has been rumored to have been cancelled and Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 owners remain on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the software that arrived at launch.

Samsung’s Android 4.3 and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean situation has been tricky to pinpoint lately. First, there were rumors that the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 2 would be getting Android 4.2 Jelly Bean before Android 4.3.

Those plans quickly changed, at least for the Galaxy Note 2, as Australian carrier Telstra confirmed that Samsung pulled the Android 4.2 update for the Galaxy Note 2 in favor of an upgrade to Android 4.3. Samsung Galaxy S3 owners are still waiting for word in regards to their Android 4.2 update.

Last month, a credible rumor suggested that the Samsung Galaxy S2 Android 4.2 update might have been cancelled due to issues that the device was having with the software. This has not yet been confirmed by Samsung but given the problems that it seems to be having with Android 4.2, it’s not out of the question.

Today, the situation has been twisted even further as AllThingsSamsung reports that the Galaxy S2 Plus, in Germany, is the proud recipient of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean which is now available over Samsung Kies. It’s unclear if the software is available in other areas though we haven’t been able to track down other regions that are seeing the update.

The Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.2 update was cancelled, according to one carrier.

It’s unclear what this means for the Samsung Galaxy S2 and its Android 4.2 update which is in doubt. One theory is that this is an update aimed at testing the stability of the Android 4.2 update on the Galaxy S2 Plus before sending it out to other models. However, that’s a little flimsy as we wouldn’t expect Samsung to endanger the experience on one device in order to test for other devices.

It’s also unclear what this means for Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 owners who remain stuck in Android 4.2 and Android 4.3 limbo. And unfortunately, at the moment, Samsung seems reluctant to offer any official information.

Instead, the carrier has only said that it will be announcing information in regards to Android 4.3 availability at a later date.

The S3 has had a few jelly bean updates for quite some time now. The official update from Samsung has been 4.2.2. If you want you can get 4.3 CM as well.
