In an attempt to steal some of the attention away from today’s Samsung Galaxy Note 3 launch announcement, HTC has posted a teaser of its own in the form of a teaser video on Twitter that is likely for the HTC One Max, a larger version of the HTC One that is said to be coming to take on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 later on this year.

Earlier today, Samsung finally confirmed Galaxy Note 3 launch rumors and sent out invites to an event set to take place on September 4th ahead of the IFA trade show in Berlin, Germany. The company doesn’t say what it will be announcing exactly but it’s clear, based on rumors and all of the hints within the invite, that this will be the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 launch.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 launch event is on for September 4th.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 launch is slated for September 4th.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will replace the Galaxy Note 2 as the company’s flagship and it will evidently be arriving with a 5.7-inch display, quad-core processor, 13MP camera, and more. The device is expected to debut on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon at the very least with U.S. Cellular a likely candidate as well.

While today is a big day for Galaxy Note 3 buyers, HTC is trying to steal some attention away with a tease of its own. Earlier today, we saw the HTC One Max leak out ahead of its arrival and now, HTC has sent out a teaser that “big things” are ahead though it doesn’t elaborate on what it’s talking about.

It’s clear though that this has to do with the HTC One Max, a rumored Galaxy Note 3 competitor, and a device that HTC will be trying to use to compete with Samsung in the phablet class of smartphones.

The teaser apparently stars Robert Downey Jr, who was reportedly hired by HTC to promote its brand, and while it doesn’t show off the phone entirely, we do get a quick glimpse of what appears to be an HTC smartphone. It’s not clear if it’s the HTC One Max or something else entirely.

What is clear is that HTC has released this teaser in order to deflect attention away from the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 which is now set for a September 4th launch. The HTC One Max launch date remains a mystery but it’s a safe bet that the company will showcase it at IFA 2013 which kicks off on September 6th.
