Nexus 7 LTE Release Date Pegged for August

Google still hasn’t released an official release date for the Nexus 7 LTE but it appears that the Nexus 7 LTE release date in Japan has been pegged for late August.

In late July, Google announced the new Nexus 7 tablet, a device that has replaced the original Nexus 7 on shelves both physical and virtual. The device arrived before its anticipated July 30th release date and is currently available in a number of different retailers including Best Buy, Amazon, Staples and the Google Play Store.

The new Nexus 7 has yet to arrive in LTE form.

The device that is in stores though is the Wi-Fi only model which comes in 16GB and 32GB form, not the 32GB 4G LTE model that comes with cellular support for AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless. In fact, Google has yet to announce a release date for the 4G LTE model leaving consumers wondering when it might arrive.

According to a retailer in Japan, courtesy of Blog of Mobile, the Nexus 7 LTE release date is expected to land in late August alongside the Wi-Fi only Nexus 7 models. The information is not yet official which means that it’s subject to change, but we did see retailers get official release date information ahead of schedule with the Wi-Fi only model so it could be that this is spot on.

If true, Japan likely wont be the only country getting the LTE model this month, or sometime soon. Regions like the United States, where the Wi-Fi only has launched already, should see the device land as well.

Google, for its part, has only said that the device will be arriving in the “coming weeks” without specifying a specific date.

Google’s Nexus 7 is currently available in Wi-Fi form only.

What we do know is that the Nexus 7 LTE will be coming to shelves in 32GB form only with a price tag of $350, or, just $20 more expensive than Apple’s Wi-Fi only 16GB iPad mini.

The device is not carrier locked and instead, it can operate on the 4G LTE networks of AT&T, Sprint and Verizon, three of the largest 4G LTE service providers in the United States.

Google’s Nexus 7 sports a new high-definition 7-inch display, quad-core processor, 5MP camera, slimmed down design, and Google’s new Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system, the latest from Google.

The japanese blog said that while the Nexus 7 will be released in August, they’re not sure which models will be arriving, so it really doesn’t say anything about the LTE release.
