HTC One X Likely Won’t Skip Android 4.2 for Android 4.3

While Samsung is likely going to be skipping the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 Android 4.2 Jelly Bean updates, it looks like another flagship from 2012, the HTC One X, won’t be getting the same treatment as signs continue to point to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and not Android 4.3 Jelly Bean as its next update.

Android 4.2 Jelly Bean has been slow to roll out to devices that were launched in 2012. Flagships like the HTC One X, One X+, Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 remain stuck on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for better or worse. And with Android 4.3 now rolling out to Nexus devices, the Android update situation has become even more complicated.

While it’s still unconfirmed, Samsung is thought to be skipping Android 4.2 Jelly Bean for Android 4.3 on both the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and the Samsung Galaxy S3. It’s unclear when Android 4.3 might roll out for those two devices with rumors suggesting that the updates may not arrive until much later on this year.

This has likely caused many to wonder about whether HTC might skip Android 4.2 in favor of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean for some of its older devices. From what we’ve seen or heard, it appears that HTC isn’t on the same page as Samsung in terms of updates.

We’ve heard that the HTC One X Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update has been sent back to HTC, by at least one carrier, for more testing. But it doesn’t appear that this snag has had any effect on HTC’s plans.

@LLabTooFeR claims that the HTC One X Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update is still on the way, though he doesn’t have any sort of time table in regards to the update.

We’ve also seen the HTC One XL update rumored for arrival in the next few weeks, something that has yet to be confirmed by HTC. We also saw the company roll out the Android 4.2 update to its HTC Butterfly, a big name device that arrived in late 2012.

So at this point, there are no signs that HTC is thinking about ditching Android 4.2 for Android 4.3 on its older devices and it appears that the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2 may be on their own when it comes to getting Android 4.3 instead of Android 4.2.
