The Xbox One release date arrives just as popular games are coming out for the Xbox 360, and GameStop has a new plan in place to help buyers enjoy the hottest new Xbox games this fall without buying games twice at full price or waiting around.

Microsoft has yet to announce an official Xbox One release date, but odds are it will arrive after many of the most anticipated Xbox games this fall including Call of Duty Ghosts, Madden 25 and FIFA 14.

This means many gamers will need to wait to play their favorite games, but the games twice at full price or stick with the games on the Xbox 360 and keep the console around for the foreseeable future.

GameStop has gamers covered if they can't wait for the Xbox One release date to play the latest games.

GameStop has gamers covered if they can’t wait for the Xbox One release date to play the latest games.

That is unless they are a GameStop PowerUp Rewards member. GameStop just announced a new trade-up program for Xbox One games that will let users buy the Xbox 360 versions of popular games and trade them in for a $50 credit towards the Xbox One version, bringing the upgrade price down to $50.

This deal does come with a few restrictions, but it’s still a good way to play some of the best games this fall before the Xbox One release date arrives. The deal is only valid on the following five games.

  • Call of Duty: Ghosts
  • Madden NFL 25
  • FIFA 14
  • Battlefield 4
  • Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag

Users must be a Power Up Rewards member when they purchase the game within 30 days of the game’s release date and users will need to trade the game in for the Xbox One version. Gamers will need to pay the $60 price of the new game, but will get a $50 coupon for GameStop via email, dropping the overall price down to $9.99.

This is a nice offer that will make playing games a little more affordable during the console switchover. Xbox 360 games will not work on the Xbox One, so without this offer users would need to keep an old Xbox 360 around.

Microsoft has yet to announce the Xbox One release date, but promised that it will arrive before Thanksgiving in the U.S. All of these games come out on the Xbox 360 before the Xbox One release date timeframe, with the possible exception of Call of Duty Ghosts, which arrives in early November. If GameStop is offering this deal, it is a good assumption that the new Xbox release date won’t come ahead of November 5th.
