iPad 5 Parts In Production, Tip Thinner Design Josh Smith08/12/2013 The iPad 5 display is reportedly in production as Apple suppliers work to deliver a new thinner touch screen to go into a thinner and lighter iPad 5 with an iPad mini-like design. It’s no surprise that the new iPad, dubbed the iPad 5 by many, will come with a new look thanks to leak after leak, detailing an iPad mini inspired design made possible by a new screen technology Apple used in the iPad mini last year.Advertisement This new display uses a touch panel that is integrated into the glass front of the iPad, which allows for a thinner overall design. Asian supply chain sources have pointed to this for the past several months, and now The Wall Street Journal is putting its weight behind the rumor. The iPad 5 display will likely borrow from the iPad mini, just as we expect the iPad 5 design to steal the mini’s good looks. In a report on the Digits blog, The Journal claims the iPad 5 display is already in production as Apple ramps up for a busy fall release schedule. New Apple products rumored for the coming months include an iPhone 5S, iOS 7, OS X Mavericks, an iPad 5 and an iPad mini 2.Advertisement This new technology doesn’t change the actual display sitting underneath the glass in any way that will prevent the iPad 5 from coming with a Retina Display like the iPad 4 and iPad 3. The video below shows this technology in action.Advertisement If the iPad 5 display is in production we could see the iPad 5 arrive sooner rather than later. All signs point to a separate iPad 5 event that will not share the limelight with an iPhone 5S. Other rumors claim Apple will keep the iPad mini 2 and iPad 5 launch events apart to highlight the larger iPad, but we could see Apple hold an iPad specific event where we get to see a new iPad and new iPad mini at the same time. If the iPhone 5S announcement is indeed on September 10th, the iOS 7 release date should come within the a week to 10 days after the iPhone announcement. Once iOS 7 is available, it opens the doors for a new iPad 5 and a new iPad mini 2, both of which would likely launch with the new version of iOS on board.Advertisement Apple last launched an iPad in October 2012, delivering the new iPad in time for a busy holiday shopping season that helped the company sell a large number of iPads and iPad minis before the end of the year. We anticipate Apple will hold an iPad 5 event in time to hit the holiday shopping season again.
