Waterfield Designs Outback Tablet Sleeve for Nexus 7 Review

Published

on

The Waterfield Designs Outback Tablet Sleeve for the Google Nexus 7 looks great and does a nice job of keeping the tablet’s screen from breaking or scratching the housing as a user carries it around. It also comes in styles that will fit a ten-inch Nexus 10, a Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 or a Microsoft Surface Pro or RT with Type Cover.

Waterfield Designs stitches together well made cases using high quality materials in San Francisco. We’ve tested a bunch of them dating back a couple of years and they hold up still looking great. We expect the Outback Tablet Sleeve to follow that trend. The distressed leather and waxed canvas looks nice and attractive. A layer of neoprene inside helps the tablet slide in and out while rubbing a few of the disgusting finger prints off the touch screen. The tablet in the case feels good in the hand.

Here’s Gary Waterfield from Waterfield Designs demonstrating the case.

The case comes in two orientations for larger 10-inch Nexus tablets. The one we reviewed for the Nexus 7 holds the tablet sliding in along the long edge of the Nexus 7. They don’t sell a vertical case for smaller tablets.

Waterfield Designs also sells the Outback Tablet Sleeve in two colors of trim. The trim along the bottom and button strap, which holds the tablet in the case, will come in a darker brown called chocolate. They named the lighter brown, seen here, grizzly.

Here’s the price list of the options that the company sells:

  • Nexus 7 or Samsung Galaxy Note 8 – $39 and only available in horizontal orientation
  • Nexus 10 or Microsoft Surface RT or Pro with type cover – $49 plus $10 if the buyer gets the vertical design

Bags and cases from Waterfield Designs seldom ever disappoint us. The Outback Tablet Sleeve case is on of the best cases or sleeves they’ve made yet.
