Rumors surrounding Google’s Nexus 5 have taken another turn today with a reliable source not only claiming that Nexus 5 photos from earlier were not of the Nexus 5 but that the upcoming Nexus 5 or Nexus 4 version two may be made by Motorola, something that has also been rumored.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen a number of potential Nexus 5 rumors leak out. Reports have suggested that either LG, Motorola or both will be making the next Nexus smartphone with whispers pointing to the LG G2 being the model for at least one of Google’s Nexus devices.

Recently, rumors have suggested that the Nexus 5 will share many of the specs of the LG G2 including a 5.2-inch display, quad-core processor and 13MP camera. They also suggest that it will come with a Nexus 4-like design with glass in the front and back and thinner bezels. Motorola has also been mentioned as a possible manufacturer though rumors have been scarce and less detailed.

This is unlikely to be the Nexus 5.

Earlier today, we shared a photo that was said to possibly be the LG Nexus 5. We were extremely dubious and for good reason it seems. According to the well-sourced @evleaks, the device from earlier is likely the LG Optimus L9 II. The devices do, in fact, look quite similar including the white back and placement of the camera sensor and flash.

He also suggests that the Nexus 5, which he refers to as possibly being the Nexus 4 version two, will be made by Motorola. This doesn’t kill off LG Nexus 5 rumors but it does suggest that there could be two Nexus devices or perhaps just one made by Motorola.

Previously Taylor Wimberly, formerly of Android and Me suggested that Motorola would be making a Nexus but that it wouldn’t be based on the Moto X, its flagship that is due out later this month.

Given the quantity of LG Nexus 5 rumors, it’s hard to dismiss LG as a possible Nexus 5 manufacturer. However, thanks to this new rumor, Nexus 5 rumors have certainly taken a mysterious turn ahead of the device’s probable launch later this year.

Launch rumors suggest that Google will release the Nexus 5 sometime in the fourth quarter which spans from October to December. Last years Nexus 4 arrived in November.
