Xbox One Release: 23 Games on Day One

Just a day after the company first detailed an extensive list of games that users can expect on the Xbox One console in its first year, Microsoft is now ready to talk about the games it expects to be available at the Xbox One release.

In total, users can expect 23 of the 50 games that Microsoft detailed yesterday, to be available when the Xbox One release arrives this fall. The lineup of titles runs the complete gamut of each major gaming genre including blockbuster titles like Call of Duty and FIFA, along with exclusive titles that can only be played on the Xbox One including Forza Motorsport 5.

While Microsoft’s own gaming development studios are heavily represented in the console’s launch title line up, Microsoft seems to have staggered development of its own blockbuster exclusive titles. For example, users won’t see new entries in the Halo, Gears of War or Fable franchises. While the company did indicate that it will ship new versions of Halo and Fable, these titles aren’t likely to ship until Fall 2014 at the earliest.

That’s in stark contrast to the heavy first-party strategy Sony is sticking to with the PlayStation 4. At past events Sony has already announced a growing list of impressive titles, all of which will be available on the PlayStation, and will all be exclusive. While Sony hasn’t released a list of titles PlayStation 4 users will see on launch day, most of the same blockbuster games that are scheduled to ship on the Xbox One will also be available on Sony’s console.

Titles launching on the Xbox One when it debuts this fall include:

Microsoft hasn’t announced an exact Xbox One release date, although the console is available for pre-order already for $499. Each boxed Xbox One title will sell for $59, while smaller independent developers – as is likely the case with Peggle 2 — will be able to set their own pricing.
