Fake iPhone 5S Box Claims 128GB Option Is Real

Published

A new set of iPhone 5S photos don’t show what the new iPhone will look like, but allegedly show an iPhone 5S box complete with a 128GB storage option.

The set of photos do show an iPhone box, but it appears that this is a fake iPhone 5S box that does not confirm a 128GB iPhone 5S or the iPhone 5S name.

The photos of an alleged iPhone 5S box show the back complete with most of a label, a side shot with the iPhone 5S name and a over-exposed front shot that appears to be taken on the carpet of a hotel ballroom.

Update: These designs come from a Graphic Design project by nategfxdesign

The photos come from digi.tech.qq.com, which claims an inside source delivered the photos of an iPhone 5S box. The photos appear to be of a box that looks similar to the iPhone 5 box, but there are some issues that could out this as a fake iPhone 5S box.

This first photo shows a 128GB storage option on the back of an iPhone box. Apple already sells an iPad with 128GB of storage, but this is not what the back of a cellular iPad looks like. If this was from an iPad we would see a small antenna near the storage option and it would not be centered. Look at the iPad box storage indicators below.

The 128GB indicator on the back of the alleged iPhone 5S box still looks a little off compared to those found on the back of the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S boxes. The extra numeral pushes the “1” and the “B” too close to the edges of the rectangle.

This is a giveaway that this is likely a fake iPhone 5S box.

Apple’s website uses the same size rectangle for the 64GB and the 128GB iPad, and there is a square area inside the rectangle that looks like someone Photoshopped out the previous size indication and printed a new label with 128GB on it. Look at the image above which better shows the area in question.

The side photo of the alleged iPhone 5S box shows an iPhone 5S name. The font matches that of the iPhone 5 box, but the “S” does not look like the branding on the iPhone 4S or iPhone 3GS box.

The front of the iPhone 5S box is too washed out to show much of anything important. The image does show an iPhone 5 with iOS 7 running on it, but there is nothing to indicate that it is the iPhone 5S. It is also a change from the images used on the iPad and iPhone boxes recently, which show a angle.

Even though other sources claim the iPhone 5S name is confirmed instead of iPhone 6, this appears to be a fake iPhone 5S box, and not a legit leak that shows the iPhone 5S branding and confirms a 128GB iPhone 5S storage option.

The iPhone 5S is expected at a September 10th event where rumors suggest Apple could announce a new iPhone 5S color and a 128GB iPhone 5S option, which would mark the first time Apple offered an iPhone with more than 64GB of storage.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo backs this rumor, claiming Apple will use the new color and larger storage option to differentiate the iPhone 5S from the iPhone 5. Apple currently offers a 128GB iPad option.

If Apple announces the iPhone 5S on September 10th, expect an iPhone 5S release within the next two weeks, and possibly the iPhone 5C at the same time.
