Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Release Date Breakdown

Published

on

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 rumors are swirling ahead of its September 4th launch date, many of them in regards to the upcoming Galaxy Note 3 release date which is said to possibly be just a few weeks away. Ahead of the device’s launch date, it’s time to take a final look at the device’s release as we break down everything there is to know about the Galaxy Note 3 release.

For several months now, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has been one of the most heavily rumored smartphones with leaks surfacing on a near daily basis. Those rumors picked up steam after Samsung sent out invites to an Unpacked Episode 2 event in Berlin, Germany ahead of the IFA 2013 trade show. The invite didn’t explicitly confirm the Galaxy Note 3 but it did make it clear that it was likely going to be the star of the show.

Earlier this week, Samsung actually confirmed the Galaxy Note 3 ahead of schedule, saying that it would be announcing the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Gear on September 4th. The Galaxy Gear is thought to be the company’s new smartwatch.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 launch event is on for September 4th.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 launch date is September 4th.

Despite the confirmation, the company remains mum about any of the specific details regarding the Galaxy Note 3. Not like it matters as rumors have seemingly revealed just about everything there is to know about the Galaxy Note 2 successor.

Whispers suggest that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will come with a 5.7-inch 1080p display, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, a 13MP camera that may be able to shoot 4K video, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, new S Pen features, and a design that appears to be made of plastic rather than metal. Samsung has said that it will be focusing on the key Galaxy Note features which likely means heavy upgrades to multitasking and S Pen apps though that still isn’t know.

Also unknown is the device’s specific release date, one of the key pieces to the puzzle. There are a host of rumors out there right now, but unfortunately none of them have been able to put the Galaxy Note 3 release date into stone.

We should know more on Wednesday but ahead of that, it’s time to examine what we think we know about the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 release date and what we now expect to occur.

Galaxy Note 3 Release Date

There has been a lot of speculation in regard to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 release date but there haven’t been a ton of credible rumors. In fact, so far, we’ve only seen three possible Galaxy Note 3 release dates emerge from the shadows though they all have been very specific.

The earliest rumored Galaxy Note 3 release date comes from an Engadget leak which displayed an internal document from Three UK. Three UK is one of several UK carriers likely to get the Galaxy Note 3 when it arrives.

This leaked document indicates that the carrier will begin selling the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 on September 16th. Problem is, the document doesn’t elaborate which means that September 16th could mean the date that the carrier starts taking pre-orders or the date that the carrier actually releases the phone. It gets more confusing.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 compared to the best smartphones of 2013.

SamMobile recently said that it believes the Galaxy Note 3 will start shipping almost immediately after the Galaxy Note 3 launch, something that seems to suggest pre-orders coming shortly after September 4th. That lines up well with a Galaxy Note 3 release in mid-September.

However, another rumor out of ETrade claims that the device will go up for pre-order in Taiwan on September 16th with a release on September 27th. Taiwan, in the past, has been amongst the first regions to get Samsung’s flagships. The United Kingdom is always almost always one of, if not the first to get them.

Further complicating matters is the fact that an early report from Geeky Gadgets, a site that was dead on with the iPhone 5 release date last year, claimed that the UK would be getting the device in late September, something that seems to back the September 27th as a possible release date in the UK and elsewhere.

So at this point, while a date hasn’t been nailed down, it’s pretty clear that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will be announced on September 4th and that its release date will likely land at some point in either mid or late September. Dates are always subject to change but it’s pretty clear that it will be out in some capacity next month and that it will have a pre-order, at least through some carriers.

Galaxy Note 3 U.S. Release Date

Three UK is not the first Galaxy Note 3 carrier that has popped up. In fact, numerous Galaxy Note 3 carriers have been rumored including Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo which was casually confirmed in a report by Reuters.

In the U.S., a report from Samsung-Updates claimed that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 would be coming to AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon with a model number breakdown that is supposed to look something like this:

  • SM-N900 – International version based on Samsung Exynos SoC
  • SM-N9005 – International version based on Snapdragon SoC (Possibly Snapdragon 800)
  • SM-N900A – AT&T Galaxy Note 3
  • SM-N900T – T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3
  • SM-N900V – Verizon Galaxy Note 3
  • SM-N900S – Sprint Galaxy Note 3
  • SM-N900R4 – Unknown
  • SM-N900P – Unknown

U.S. Cellular, the country’s fifth largest service provider, still hasn’t been rumored but given that it carried the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note 2, buyers should expect it to also offer the Galaxy Note 3.

Thus far, we haven’t seen any specific dates emerge for the United States, which isn’t at all surprising. Carriers are likely still playing with their release pipelines, especially because of the iPhone 5S launch that is expected to take place on September 20th.

The United States, in the past, was late to Samsung’s big devices. The Galaxy Note 2, in particular, didn’t arrive until two months after the announcement. And the Verizon Galaxy Note 2 didn’t emerge until November 29th, just about three months after it was first shown off on stage.

The Galaxy Note 3 is being marketed in the U.S. already.

The Galaxy Note 3 is being marketed in the U.S. already.

It’s possible that we could see the U.S. get the Galaxy Note 3 a bit late this year given that the event is not taking place in the United States. However, there are two things that lead us to believe that the U.S. could get the device much quicker this time around:

These are not guarantees, but they are signs of Samsung putting importance upon the U.S. market. Whether that’s a whole month quicker or just a couple of weeks quicker is not clear but it would be surprising, given what we know, to see the U.S. Galaxy Note 3 struggle to launch.

NO DOUBT, faster Quadcore Snap 800 cpu @ 2.3ghz, (w, LTE-A), Adreno 330 gpu (killer graphics), 3 gigs DDR3 ram, 5.7″ Amoled screen, 13 mega pixel camera (with improved features), Android 4.3 OS, all wrapped up n an energy miser unit, no bigger than Note 2. Also a polycarbonate frame & a touch of Class Carbon Fiber (back batt cover) with Brush aluminum metallic type ring around edge, not bad, Hey.? ! ? !…..Especially with a quick delivery date, sometime n Sept…..

Well Richard, It might rule. Except for the fact that other manufacturers are planning on putting out almost the same type of phone. Like HTC. The One Max has basically the same processor and features as the GN3. A few other slight differences. But basically the same phones internally. I just googled GN3 vs HTC One Max. I guess I will just wait to see what Samsung brings. They will bring it or not. Hope you’re right.

If the statement is true about the 5.68 screen size, I will be moving on. All of this hoopla of the NEW Galaxy Note 3. Driving me bonkers. I am looking for screen size as well as functionality. As far as I have read. I will be selling my Note 2 and going to HTC. Even tho HTC in the past had really terrible battery life. I will try it out to see if it has improved. Or keep my note 2 and see what happens next year. In my opinion Samsung is dropping the ball. From the leaks i have read, samsung is taking the S4 and note 2 and basically merging them with a few more added features and calling it the Note 3 I say WRONG!!! If you are going to update the current phone by merging 2 phone together. Call it what it is. A Samsung Galaxy Note 2S. The second version of the existing note 2. Then R&D could have more time to revolutionize the industry with something really spectacular. Not disappoint consumers with jamming 2 phones together and say HEY LOOKY WHAT WE DID! I USE to be an iPhone user. I had a lot of issues with it. So for those who like the iPhone. I say good luck on your phone and enjoy it.

I couldn’t disagree more. I also moved from an iPhone to the GN2, and my biggest fear was that the GN3 was going to be much bigger just because it could be much bigger.

If the rumors are true, the GN3 is going to take the fantastic size of the GN2 and expand the internal storage to 32 or 64GB, upgrade the screen, upgrade the processor, more RAM, add the IR port, a whole bunch of new sensors. If that what it is, it may be the first time I don’t upgrade phones for a good long while.

I played with a Mega, and while the 6.3 isn’t unusably big, it is – IMO – bigger then optimal.

You should stop and think about what the perfect size screen for you is. You want a big screen bump in the GN3. WIll you be happy if the GN4 is the same size? Or do you just want a big increase every year? What is your perfect screen size?

If you think the Note 3 should just be a Note 2S, then shouldn’t the Note 2 just be a Note 1S? In my eyes, more is changing from the Note 2 to 3 than what changed from the Note 1 to 2. At least the Note 3 has a small bump in screen area, AND a big bump in resolution. The Note 2 was essentially the same size & resolution, just a different aspect ratio. Technically, Note 2 had slightly more screen area, but slightly fewer pixels, while the Note 3 is a bigger bump in both vs. 2. You measure progress simply by the size of the screen? They should just get bigger & bigger every year? In the future, will the hot accessory be a wheeled travel-cart that we use to pull our phones around with, like luggage?

If there’s a market for even larger phones, fine, release larger phones. That’s what the Mega is. But it’s silly to think the same model should just continue getting bigger & bigger. As a current user of the original Note, I was quite relieved when the original rumors of 6″+ were quenched. I want the biggest screen that I can comfortably use and carry, and I feel like the Note is at that limit for me. If I wanted something bigger, I’d move to a different model.

I agree with a majority of what you said. I dont understand this .13 inch increase in screen size I mean the whole point of the Note line is based on 2 things screen size and S pen. The biggest problem I’ve had with my Note 2 was the fact that @ 5.55 inches the S pen is more of a novelty than a practical means of function simply because the screen isnt large enough to see that useful. I was so excited abate the possibilities when Samsung VP announced 5.99 inch screen a few months back, but now I’m bummed with this tiny bump in size. This really is a Note 2S. In every real world application the performance will be nearly identical given how fast and smooth Note 2 is so the updated hardware is a mute point. AS Far as Full HD again in my eyes this is more of a negative than a positive because now the battery life will be nearly halved with doubling the pixel matri×. I’d much rather get 6 hours of screen on use time than have an HD screen. Not to mention that my s4 @441 ppi is nearly indistinguishable us my Note 2 720 screen yes the battery 1 life is appx half of what my N2 gets. Finally is size. 5.68 from 5.55 is .13 inches or about 3.5 mm total increase a negligible amount or at least too small to matter. That is a smaller increase than Note 2 over Note 1. To me Note 3 is an incrtmental upgrade over Note 2 simply for Samsung to have room to grow Note 4 and Note 5. Its a shame given how long many of us Note fans have been waiting, and a huge let down to those of us wanting a 6 inch device. Stupid more given the specs are pretty generic as almost every other phone coming out has a s600 or 800 and many with larger screens. so essentially this is an uglier block shaped inerimental updated Note 2 instead of The evolutionary Note 3 We were all hoping for. Guess I’ll keep rocking my Mega 6.3 until Note 4 comes out and Samsung deliver a true mini tab phone that has the screen real estate to take full advantage of the s pen which has become the single feature which sets it apart from any other 5 and a half inch phone. 3mm increase? Come on Samsung

I could not have said it any better.

          09/02/2013 at 5:25 pm

I just feel like the specs are generic compared to nearly every other upcoming phone so the size was going to be a major factor. which now F true being 5.68 has been surpassed by several other devices 50 the Note line which was a revolutionary device @ 5.3 and 5.55 inch screens compared to the average 4.2 inch devices a year ago is now just another device that has a stylus. Its a Shame as there is no one out there that loves the Note series more than myself as I own all 4 current devices, note 1, note 2, note 8, and note 10.1 I cant help but feel like I did with Note 2 on a 5.55 or 5.68 inch screen the S pen is still a novelty as the screen is just not large enough to be a practical means of use like a 6 inch screen would be. I’ve said it since I bought Note 1 if this was 6 inches it would be the ultimate device. I guess will have to wait another year for that device and settle for the Note 2s

Sure, if you compare strictly by diagonal dimensions. But the Note 1 was a 16:10 device. While the Note 2 screen got taller, it also got narrower. The Note 3 is growing in both directions.

The Note (1) 5.3″ diagonal screen had ~12.6″² screen area
The Note 2 5.5″ diagonal screen had ~12.9″²
The Note 3 5.68″ diagonal screen will have ~13.8″²

          09/02/2013 at 9:44 am

I am not sure how you figure 13.8 when the size of the note 2 is 5.5 and as far the leaks state 5.68. there will be a .13 difference. I really don’t think samsung wants to manufacture a 13.8 in screen for a phone. That would be way too big. I am just wondering what you ment. Thanks for the comment tho.

            09/02/2013 at 10:47 am

“² means square inches. The numbers I listed are screen AREA. If you try t compare screen sizes between different devices using diagonal measurements, you will get misleading results if they aren’t all the same aspect ratio.

        • ckh14

          09/02/2013 at 5:17 pm

first of all Note 2 is not 5.5 inches its 5.55 inches diagonally so already your calculations are wrong. Second, while Note 1 was wxga 16:10 @ 5.3 Note 2 and Note 3 are 16:9. So the overall increase in screen size is as I originally indicated a gain of .13 inches which is appx 3mm diagonally. I’m not trying to be insulting but this is not a hard concept or complex mathematical calculations its simple addition with the correct data to Start from. I dont mind being corrected but I get annoyed when someone tries to dispute a point incorrectly over very simple math. Basic fact is the Note 3 if released at 5.68 inches will be a total increase of about 3mm which is hardly enough to matter or even notice for that fact. It’s basically a Note 2 in a more Squared off frame. Hardly the evolution note 2 was over Note 1

          • Darin

            09/02/2013 at 6:10 pm

Apologies, you’re right about the Note 2 dimensions. It was marketed as a 5.5″ screen, but is actually 5.55″. However the point stands, when comparing screens of different aspect ratios, you can’t compare by diagonal measurements. For the sake of accuracy, I will correct my numbers:

            Original note: 5.3″ 16:10 800×1280 4.49″ x 2.81″ 12.62″²
            Note II: 5.5″ 16:9 720×1280 4.84″ x 2.72″ 13.16″²
            Note 3: 5.68″ 16:9 1080×1920 4.95″ x 2.78″ 13.78²

So the Note 2 gained 4.3% screen area over the original, but LOST 10% in pixels
The Note 3 will (reportedly) be gaining 4.7% in screen area over the 2, and gaining 225% in pixels.

I’m not following how you can say the Note 2 was more of an evolution than the 3 will be. There was a very minor bump in screen real estate in both cases, but a major bump in resolution for the Note 3.

Ran you were Correct at second guessing mlk as he is wrong. His moth may be In fact but his information is not. Note 2 is 5.55 inches not 5.5 therefore as I had originally stated Note 3 @ 5.68 is an increase of only .13 inches or about 3mm. 5.68- 5.55 = .13 Dort let misinformation cloud the issue. This is a mediocre update especially as it was just revealed the S pen software Sdk is identical to Note 2 so Note 3 truly is an incrimental update in nearly every possible way.

          09/02/2013 at 5:08 pm

Except Note 2 is 5.55 not 5.5 inches ie. .55 to .68 is .13 inches. Not to be rude but how difficult is this?

          • randod

            09/03/2013 at 5:13 am

Try adding .13 to 5.5. It equals to 5.63. Not 5.68
You are adding .1 to .5 that equals to 6. The .03 is placed after the 6. Which equals to .63 how difficult is that?

@ randod: I doubt “Kelly” will ever see your comment. If he/she does, I’m certain it won’t affect when/where these ads are posted. You see these things posted on forums of all different subject matters all the time. They don’t care if it’s relevant. It’s probably not even a person consciously thinking about where it’s being posted, as it’s probably automated to some extent. There’s a sucker born every day, it’s just a matter of blasting these ads out in enough numbers to find them. If it’s easy for an anonymous person to post a comment online, it’s easy for someone to post a free ad.

All you can do is ignore them, and feel sorry for the few people who fall for it.
