Best Buy Also Extending Xbox One Game Trade-In Offer

Users looking to pick up an Xbox One on November 22nd now have another reason to purchase their favorite games for the Xbox 360, even though the Xbox One launch is quickly approaching. Best Buy has announced a new trade-in deal that will allow its customers to upgrade from Xbox 360 versions of their favorite games to Xbox One versions for just $9.99.

A new area on the company’s website highlights the new deal. Any Best Buy user who purchases Call of Duty Ghosts, FIFA14, Battlefield 4, Assassin’s Creed IV and Watch Dogs at full price will be able to trade in their Xbox 360 version for $40 credit and a $10 Xbox One coupon towards an Xbox One version of the game after the console’s launch.

Best Buy notes that this means users will be able to upgrade to titles on the Xbox One for as low as $9.99, alluding to the possibility that some games could cost more, leaving the user to pay any balance over the $50 credit.

Users will be able to purchase Call of Duty Ghosts for the Xbox 360 and then trade it later for a version for the Xbox One.

In effect, Best Buy’s deal mirrors a similar deal being offered by GameStop. In GameStop’s version, users will receive store credit that they can use on the corresponding version for Xbox One. Both trade in deals require the user to purchase the Xbox 360 version of the game within the first 30 days of its availability. Both programs also require the user to redeem the Xbox One version of their game before January 1, 2014.

The only differences is in how users get into the program. Best Buy will be opening up the program nation-wide, and won’t restrict the program to users who just walk in off the street. On the other hand GameStop will require users trading in their game to sign-up for their Power Up Rewards program before purchasing the Xbox 360 version of the game.

While Xbox One users now have at least two game upgrade programs to choose from if they are planning to upgrade this fall, neither retailer has announced any plans to introduce a similar program for Sony’s PlayStation 4.

The Xbox One is available now for pre-order at both retailers for $499.

I’m going to wait with ordering just a little bit more with my XBox one, who knows which other deals/packages will pop up? Anyway, game lineup looks great, especially Ryse game looks great.
