iPad 5 & iPad mini 2 Video Compares Rumored iPads

While they likely won’t be announced on September 10th, a new video allegedly shows off the shells of Apple’s rumored new iPads currently dubbed iPad 5 and iPad mini 2, offering a possible glimpse ahead of their eventual release date.

Earlier today, a video purportedly showed off the iPad 5 shell next to the current iPad 4’s shell. The video showed off a device that should have thinner bezels than the iPad 4. The shell once again showed off the heavily rumored iPad mini-like design that is expected to be coming with the new 9.7-inch iPad. The iPad 5 of course isn’t thought to be coming alone and instead, is rumored to be coming with another new iPad, the iPad mini 2.

A new video from Unbox Therapy claims to show off the iPad 5 shell next to a shell for the rumored iPad mini 2, a device that should replace the original iPad mini sometime later this year.

The shell offers an up close glimpse at a shell that we’ve seen emerge several times in the past and it also goes into detail showing just how the iPad mini 2 could compare to the larger iPad 5.

As expected, the designs are similar to one another as they both use a similar aluminum back shell and both feature a slim design. This is an indication that the iPad 5 could be slimmer than the iPad 4, something that has been rumored numerous times already. The iPad mini 2 looks similar to the iPad mini in terms of design which could mean that the biggest design changes could be coming to Apple’s larger iPad 5.

While these parts aren’t confirmed to be the final designs for Apple’s iPad 5 and iPad mini 2, though they do match up with rumors that have been swirling around for months. They also apparently come from noted Apple leakster Sonny Dickson who is known for leaking Apple parts early.

New claims point to a cheaper iPad mini 2 and a iPad mini Retina coming later.

The iPad mini 2 is rumored for later this year.

Apple isn’t expected to debut the iPad mini 2 or iPad on September 10th, instead, keeping that event for the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C. Rumors suggest that it could announce the new iPads at an event in October with a release likely coming ahead of Black Friday.

While Apple’s iPad is expected to feature a new design, the company’s iPad mini 2 is expected to retain a similar design but add a new Retina Display to the mix, something that would be a major upgrade over last year’s 7.9-inch iPad mini.

Both devices will likely come with iOS 7, Apple’s new software that is expected to arrive for iPhone owners sometime in September. There are rumors that iOS 7 for iPad could roll out in October alongside the new iPads though that remains unconfirmed.
