Galaxy Note 3 Release Date & Price: Breakdown by Carrier

Published

on

Earlier this week, Samsung announced the all-new Galaxy Note 3, a successor to its Galaxy Note 2 and a device that is likely on the radar for many buyers in the United States. And while Samsung didn’t confirm any dates or information for U.S. carriers, we have started to see information emerge, shedding light on many of the Galaxy Note 3’s mysteries.

After an endless supply of rumors, Samsung finally announced the expected. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 made its debut earlier this week in Berlin, Germany ahead of the start of IFA 2013. The device arrived with a host of new features including a larger 1080p display, a Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, a larger battery, an improved 13MP camera, a slimmer design that is made of faux leather rather than strict polycarbonate plastic and more.

Samsung also announced that the Galaxy Note 3 would be hitting more than 140 countries around the world on September 25th with a release planned for October in Japan and the United States.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will hit five U.S. carriers.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will hit five U.S. carriers.

For many, this was a bad sign. In the past, we’ve seen Samsung dish out vague U.S. release details and carriers wait several weeks before offering up any kind of official information. With the Galaxy Note 2 in particular we saw carriers remain mum about specifics and instead, only release details when they got closer to launch.

Fortunately, carriers have learned from their mistakes and this time around, they have made things surprisingly clear. The first sign of this was the unusually candid nature of Verizon, a carrier that is typically dead last to devices. Almost immediately, the carrier offered up details on the device and its pre-order, a sign that things could escalate quickly. And they did.

Earlier today, we saw a ton of carriers make their Galaxy Note 3 plans known and we now have most of the Galaxy Note 3 release details for the U.S. Not all of them, but most.

Here, we breakdown the Galaxy Note 3 release, carrier-by-carrier, and examine their release dates, pricing and more.

AT&T Galaxy Note 3

In a bit of a surprise move, AT&T kicked off the upcoming Galaxy Note 3 launch in the United States by opening up pre-orders for the device, now available on the carrier’s website. So much for that sign up page.

As expected the company is charging $299.99 for the 32GB Galaxy Note 3 with no 64GB model in sight. As we’ve said, carriers have traditionally offered only one storage model for the Galaxy Note series so it could be that the 32GB is the only one that arrives.

The Galaxy Note 3 is headed to AT&T in early October.

Here is how the pricing for the AT&T Galaxy Note 3 breaks down:

  • AT&T Galaxy Note 3 two-year price – $299
  • AT&T Galaxy Note 3 one-year price – $549
  • AT&T Galaxy Note 3 two-year price – $35 a month for 20 months

The carrier expects to offer the Galaxy Gear watch in the coming weeks but at this time, the new gadget remains unavailable. The Galaxy Note 3 will be out on October 1st, just a few days after its initial release date.

Sprint Galaxy Note 3

Oddly enough, Sprint is lagging behind the rest of the pack when it comes to announcing Samsung Galaxy Note 3 details. It remains the last carrier without a release date though we don’t expect it to hold back for long.

Given that we’re seeing early October for all U.S. carriers, perhaps we’ll see Sprint fall in with them. The carrier is often out in front when it comes to release dates so we don’t expect it to lag behind, even though its details remain a mystery.

Since we’re seeing $299, we should see Sprint follow suit with that price tag. Expect that price to be attached to the 32GB model as it looks like the 64GB option may never arrive.

T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3

T-Mobile, like AT&T, was hot out of the gates with information regarding the Galaxy Note 3. It will be delivering the Galaxy Note 3 a day later on October 2nd and unlike AT&T, T-Mobile will be offering the device without a contract.

What this means is that the company will be offering the device at $199 down plus monthly payments on the T-Mobile JUMP plan. It will not be offering it with a contract as T-Mobile abolished those earlier this year.

The carrier is not currently taking pre-orders for the Galaxy Note 3 but consumers who sign up for information about the Galaxy Note 3 before September 15th will be entered for a chance to win a Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear companion.

T-Mobile will put the Galaxy Gear on sale on October 2nd as well with a $299 price tag and no options to buy it on a JUMP plan.

U.S. Cellular Galaxy Note 3

The Galaxy Note 3 will come to U.S. Cellular in October.

The Galaxy Note 3 will come to U.S. Cellular in October.

The nation’s fifth largest carrier didn’t want to get left behind as it announced that it would be carrying the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 starting in October. However, the carrier is mum about a specific date, pricing or a pre-order at this point, leaving potential buyers in the dark.

Of course, given the plans of other carriers, buyers can expect a price that falls in at $299.99 on contract and a release date that falls in and around the beginning of October. U.S. Cellular, like Sprint, is typically at the front of Android smartphone launches so we should see a speedy release, even though information, at this point, is scarce.

We expect it to offer the 32GB device only and shun a 64GB model like the rest of the carriers in the U.S.

Verizon Galaxy Note 3

Verizon, which is typically last to smartphone launches, came right out with information, confirming a pre-order for today alongside the Galaxy Gear. The carrier is offering up the Galaxy Note 3 for the suspected $299.99 on-contract and it promises to ship the device out by October 10th. So, it could be that Verizon is a little behind the others, but not much.

The carrier is bundling the Galaxy Gear in with the Galaxy Note 3 which will cost buyers $599 and it will be offering the device for $0 down and $29.16 a
month on a Verizon Edge plan.

It has not given an in-store release date though we imagine that that date will fall somewhere in October.

What’s Next

Thus far, this is all we know about the Galaxy Note 3 U.S. release. Key things to keep in mind are that the 64GB model is unlikely given the Galaxy Note’s history. We expect Sprint and U.S. Cellular to offer up concrete details on their launches in the near future. We still haven’t seen the pink Galaxy Note 3 emerge for the U.S. though it could emerge later on down the road. And it seems that Verizon has finally gotten its act together after bungled Galaxy S4, HTC One and Galaxy Note 2 launches.

A new faux leather back for the Galaxy Note 3.

Carriers have not shown off the pink Galaxy Note 3. Yet.

Something else to keep in mind is that we should see the price of the Galaxy Note 2 drop. The Galaxy Note 2 remains a solid phone and it will only get better once its updated with Android 4.3 and later, some of the Galaxy Note 3’s enhanced software.

I was hoping the Note 3 would be eligible for the AT&T Next plan, but now that I know it is ($35 month/20 months), I already know that I’m getting it. Can’t wait!
